Fisipol UGM and Future Skills Held the First Ever AI-Based Talk Show in Indonesia

Yogyakarta, March 4th 2023─In collaboration with Yayasan Pijar Masa Depan, the Faculty of Social and Political Science Universitas Gadjah Mada (FISIPOL UGM) held an innovative panel discussion titled “The Future of Work and the Skills Needed for Indonesia’s Growth” on Saturday (4/3) online. The panel discussion is a part of the University Future Skills Batch 7 line of events, which officiate the arrival of a new batch of University Future Skill learners.

With Dr. Eng. Adhiloka Wijaya Messakh, S.T., M. Eng. as a technology expert, Ambarawati as an expert in agriculture, Yunus Abin Koto M.Sc., Ph.D., as an expert in education, and Obed Kresna Widyapratistha from Fisipol UGM as the moderator, this panel discussion is pretty unique. This is because all of the panelists are robots operated by AI (artificial intelligence), while the moderator is a real person.

The Future Skills Batch 7 class was opened by the Ministry of State Secretary Prof. Dr. Pratikno, M.Soc.Sc and the Dean of Fisipol UGM, Dr. Wawan Mas’udi, S.I.P., M.P.A.

“Let’s keep an open mind and try to continue developing ourselves in the midst of a technological development era. Let’s increase our skills and knowledge so we can stay relevant and continue contributing to society and the world. Don’t let technology overpower us. Let’s continue collaborating with technology to be successful,” said Pratikno in his opening speech.

During the 30-minute discussion, we can see that AI is not only capable of creating a convincing visual, but they are also able to give coherent content of discussion about the latest topic as if they are real-life experts.

The AI showcase by Future Skills is part of a campaign to inform people that a fast technological development has the potential of replacing the roles of humans. Therefore, the new generation needs to learn future skills starting now.

The collaboration between Fisipol UGM and Future Skills as a digital education platform has been going on for six semesters. This collaboration is based on the hope that the classes can equip the new generation with relevant skills and education to support Indonesia in answering future challenges.
