Bali, September 3rd  2022─Fisipol UGM’s Center for Digital Society (CfDS) is back with Digital Expert Talk #16 with the title “Creative Youngsters: The Use of Augmented Reality (AR) in the Creative Industry”. This time, the event is held offline in Bali International Convention Center (BICC), Nasi Dua, Bali on Saturday (3/9). This event is also live streamed through CfDS Fisipol UGM social media channels.

The collaboration between CfDS and the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo), Meta, as well as Hacktiv8 is done to support G20’sDigital Economy Working Group Meeting (DEWG) through the Digital Innovation Networks (DIN) forum. In line with the title, this event talked about the potential of using Augmented Reality (AR) in developing the economy. The speakers invited are experts in the area; Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan as the Director General of Informatics Applications and Governance in the Ministry of Communication and Information; Noudhy Valdryno as Indonesia and Timor Leste’s Manager of Public Policy; Sindy Tia Ulfa as the Founder of BikinFilter & Metavolution Program Alumni; Bonifasius Wahyu Pudjianto as the Director of Informatics Development in the Ministry of Communication and Information; with Treviliana Eka Putri as the moderator and the Secretary Executive of CfDS.

This event is also a way to increase Indonesia’s youth potential in using AR as a part of the Metaverse. According to Boni, the amount of digital talent in Indonesia is far from enough. “That is why, it is now our job and duty to fulfill that amount,” Boni said.

Ryno also said that in the era of the Metaverse, we need more digital talent. In response to that, Meta launched the Meta Immersive Learning Academy (MILA) which was also launched in this event. This is in line with Meta’s commitment and spirit to increase Indonesia’s digital talent capacity in the area of Extended Reality (XR) which is a mix of AR and Virtual Reality (VR).

“We want MILA to help prepare Indonesia’s digital talent so that its economic potential can be developed,” Ryno said.

Sindy, as an alumni of the Metavolution program also gave her remarks on her experience. “I can develop my potential in the AR world and increase my knowledge.” Even though she doesn’t have an information technology background, Sindy can still thrive in the area. That fact is also appreciated by Semuel.

“This contribution in helping develop the nation’s potential is something that we have to appreciate. This can also help in developing a product’s marketing,” Semuel said which ended the talk show. The event is then followed by the launch of MILA with an offline button press, as well as a virtual launch that can be joined through a barcode scan.
