Yogyakarta, 6 March 2019 – Affirming Fisipol UGM’s pledge of providing political education before the upcoming General Election that will be held on the 17th of April 2019, Fisipol UGM held the third round of the talk show to discuss the programmes of the Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidates. This event focused on the theme of Indonesia’s foreign policy and was held on the Auditorium Mandiri at the 4th floor of Fisipol UGM from 9 am until 12 pm.This event was broadcasted by RRI and was also available through Fisipol UGM’s Instagram Live. Furthermore, this event is also available to watch on Fisipol UGM’s YouTube channel.In this event, Meutya Hafid represented the Tim Kampanye Nasional (TKN) of Joko Widodo and Ma’aruf Amin. Meanwhile, the Badan Pemenangan Nasional (BPN) of Prabowo Subianto and Sandiaga Uno was represented by Hazairin Pohan.
The panel of experts in this event consisted of Dr. Nur Rachmat Yuliantoro, S.I.P., MA(IR) (Department of International Relations UGM), Dra. Siti Daulah Khoiriati, M.A. (Department of International Relations UGM), Prof. Dr. Sigit Riyanto, S.H., LLM. (Faculty of Law UGM), Dr. Achmad Munjid, Ph.D. (Faculty of Cultural Sciences UGM) and Dr. Muhammad Najib, S.Sos., M.A. (Center for Security and Peace Studies UGM). This event was hosted by Dian Fatmawati, a lecturer at Fisipol UGM.
Meutya emphasized on Jokowi’s success on Indonesia’s accession as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. If elected for another term, Jokowi’s presidency will continue the policies that have been implemented during the current term with Vice-President Jusuf Kalla.
Meanwhile, in explaining the programs, Hazairin stated that BPN’s policies will refer to the preamble of the 1945 Constitution. According to Hazairin, the President is Indonesia’s commander in diplomatic activities, as has been stated in Law Number 37 of 1999.
After the question-and-answer session with the panellists, the participants were granted the opportunity to deliver their opinions and to ask questions to the representatives of both sides. This series of talk shows will be held until its fifth round in April 2019.
