Fisipol UGM Library Brings a Complete Service and Facility For Its Students

Yogyakarta, November 19th 2022–The Faculty of Social and Political Science (Fisipol) UGM is filled with units that facilitate the needs of Fisipol students and lecturers, one of them is the Fisipol Library. The Fisipol Library is divided into two parts, the offline book library in the UGM Central Library Building and the digital library most commonly known as Fisipol Digital Library (DIGILIB).
Launched for the first time in July 2019, DIGILIB is the product of an initiative from the Fisipol Library unit to accommodate the change in its users’ needs. “We adjust not only to the needs but also the level of comfort needed by the users,” said Yuli Hesti Wahyuningsih, the Coordinator of Fisipol Library in an interview last Friday (17/11). The initiative is shown through Digilib Infrastructure which is divided into three main areas; the social zone, the quiet zone, and the silent zone.

The social zone adopts the concept of the cafe located in the first floor of Fisipol Mandiri Building, known as the DIGILIB Café. In it, you can find a meeting room, cafe, as well as a performance stage. In the level directly above the cafe, you can find a quiet zone which includes a green screen studio, a discussion room, mini cinema, and a sports center. Then, on the third floor there is the silent zone which includes four discussion rooms as well as 24 iMacs that can be used by reserving beforehand. Every part of the library is equipped with strong wifi and stop contacts that are designed to look fresh so as to not make the students feel bored.

“However, the core of the digital library is the information that is accessible anywhere, anytime,” Yuli said. In line with what Yuli stated, DIGILIB also includes a platform that can be accessed through this link:  digilib.fisipol.ugm.ac.id. Through that platform, the Fisipol UGM students can access a complete collection of Fisipol UGM’s Electronic Theses Dissertation, e-journal, as well as e-book. There are also some still images in-house product, podcast in-house product, videocast in-house product, as well as Fisipol UGM’s Digital Research Data (DiRDF) that is still in the works. The e-books can also be accessed through E-Perpus and Kubuku.

Fisipol students can borrow physical books in the Fisipol Library located in UGM Central Library Building by activating their library membership beforehand. The membership activation service can be done by contacting Fisipol Library’s Instagram, @perpusfisipolugm. Not only can you borrow physical books, the Fisipol Library also has many facilities like access to all faculties’ ETD, Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) which is integrated with all libraries across UGM, access to magazines and newspapers from Tempo Digital, meeting rooms and co-working space, as well as iMac usage. Other than that, students can also check their works in Turnitin simply by giving a letter from their lecturer. Fisipol Library also offers Mendeley and Vosviewer training for students.
