Yogyakarta, September 11th 2021–UGM Library held Library Update #8 with the theme of Library Service for Social and Humanities Cluster with Fisipol and UGM Law Faculty (10/9). On this occasion, Yuli Hesti Wahyuningsih as the Coordinator of Fisipol UGM Library said that the Fisipol Library is developing a centralized system for an electronic based service which is through the digilib.fisipol.ugm.ac.id.
Fisipol students can access Electronic Thesis and Dissertation (ETD) through the website. New students of batch 2021 can directly go to the website using their SSO UGM account to fully access the ETD because they are already registered in the system. Students can also access the book catalogue made by the Fisipol Library that has been converted to an electronic book catalogue. In regards to electronic journals, students can access lib.ugm.ac.id managed by the Central Library of UGM. In the future, digilib.fisipol.ugm.ac.id will also provide access to supporting links or platforms for the academic reference of students, including E-Library and Kubuku.
E-Library is an online library application that provides books, magazines, and e-newspaper. Although the materials inside can’t be downloaded, students can borrow ebooks online and then read it without being connected to the internet for around three days. According to Hesti, Fisipol has created a collaboration through the membership system of E-Library, so that all the students need to do is register themselves with their UGM email to access it. The step by step on accessing the E-Library is already mentioned in the Instagram of @perpusfisipolugm and if students have any questions they can directly use the direct message feature to voice their concerns. Meanwhile, Kubuku can be accessed by Fisipol UGM students or the general public after downloading the application, registering themselves, and activating the account through their email.
Hesti said that the development of the electronic based library is one of Fisipol UGM’s commitment to supporting the students’ academic needs in the digital age. However, the print collection of the Fisipol Library is still managed well. Although offline service was not open during the pandemic, the Fisipol Library still held a Drive Thru system to borrow physical books. To borrow, first students have to check the availability through opac.lib.ugm.ac.id. Then, students must contact the officer through the Instagram of @perpusfisipolugm to send the title of the book they would like to borrow, their student number, a photo of their student card, as well as the hour on which they would like to pick up the book. Then, the student and the officer can meet in the Fisipol Library to take the book and to return it.
Other than to facilitate the borrowing of books, the Instagram of @perpusfisipolugm is also used as an interactive communication path by the Library of Fisipol. Students who need help or want to use the library facilities can directly use the DM feature in hope that students can get the best service to support their academic journey.
