Yogyakarta, March 16th 2022─This year, Indonesia is participating in the G20 forum with the slogan “Recover Together, Recover Stronger”. In order to enrich G20’s strategic agenda, the Faculty of Social and Political Science of Gadjah Mada University held a couple of seminars. Titled “Indonesia’s G20 Presidency: Leadership towards a Just and Sustainable Global Order”, the event started on March 10th and will continue until September 19th, 2022. The press conference attended by Wawan Masudi, Luqman Hakim, and a couple of media partners opened the event last Wednesday (16/3).
In his opening speech, Wawan Mas’udi as the Dean of Fisipol UGM stated the importance of Indonesia’s participation in the era of disruption. According to Wawan, there are a lot of issues that should be managed not just in the context of the state, but also in the academic sphere. “How we push the domestic agenda to the global agenda will be an important issue to analyze in the academic sphere,” Wawan said.
Other than the seminars in Recover Together, Recover Stronger: G20, and Indonesia’s Strategic Agenda which was held on March 17th, Wawan also talked about Fisipol UGM’s plan in the G20. According to Wawan’s explanation, there will be a specific and thematic forum like a policy brief that will serve the function of summarizing important ideas to give to the government. Additionally, Fisipol also plans to release a book in August 2022.
On the same occasion, Dr. Luqman-nul Hakim a lecturer from the Department of International Relations Fisipol UGM and as the Coordinator of G20 said that this agenda is a response to substantive issues in the world. Luqman said that Fisipol’s participation in G20 is important. According to Luqman, “The participation of the academic world shows that the presidency of G20 is not merely a celebration, but also a momentum that we can use for a more strategic agenda”.
The main focus of this event, according to Luqman, is the production of knowledge to give input and a great moment for public dissemination. Through the G20, Fisipol UGM hopes to create a significant contribution for Indonesia and the world.
