Yogyakarta, May 18th 2022─Digital Expert Talk #10 organized by the Center for Digital Society (CfDS) Fisipol UGM became a digital smart roadshow and Supporting Event for the G20 Summit with the title “Unpacking the Metaverse: Accelerating Digital Literacy in Welcoming Future Technology”. This event is a collaboration between Gadjah Mada University through CfDS UGM and the Ministry of Communication and Information (KOMINFO) and is supported by Meta.
On this occasion, the event took place with a mixed method. There is an offline event with limited participants at Graha Sabha Pramana and an online event which can be watched through Zoom or CfDS Fisipol UGM’s live youtube streaming.
To open the event, the Minister of KOMINFO, Johnny G. Plate as the keynote speaker gave the opening remarks. “there’s nothing like a dream to create a future”. In today’s developments, the quote reminds us that it is important to have dreams, visions, and imaginations to shape the future. The development of the extraction era into the creation era has made technology a main concern in the country’s development process going forward. Currently, Indonesia is also developing Metaverse as the future of technology and the internet, of course with support from various parties, both private and educational institutions such as UGM as a knowledge partner.
At the core of the event which is the discussion session, there were four speakers who attended from various backgrounds from CfDS to the Public Policy Manager from Meta. This discussion session was guided by Faiz Rahman, a CfDS researcher as well as a lecturer at the Faculty of Law UGM.
This discussion becomes a transfer of knowledge that is quite interesting because the discussion of the Metaverse is explained in-depth starting from what the Metaverse is, how it develops, to how the Metaverse can have a significant impact on development, especially as the future of the internet. Therefore, this discussion explains how to use the Metaverse for human life, from watching concerts, study, meetings, to buying assets on the Metaverse. “Together, we present an Indonesia that is interconnected and increasingly advanced.” This sentence shows the enthusiasm in welcoming the development of Metaverse to push technological progress in Indonesia.
