Yogyakarta, 10 October 2024—Digital transformation is now taking place in a deep and profound way. The challenges of regulating digital transformation call for a greater spotlight on the importance of inclusive and equitable digital technology. In response to this discourse, CfDS officially closed the Digital Society Week 2024 event series by launching the AI Policy Monitoring Dashboard.
Through a series of activities from Digital Society Week 2024, CfDS UGM developed various issues regarding digital transformation. In the Closing Ceremony of Digital Society Week 2024, held at Auditorium Mandiri Fisipol, CfDS UGM launched the AI Policy Dashboard, an integrated research tool that collects, analyzes, and summarizes AI or artificial intelligence policies in Indonesia.
Iradat Wirid, Deputy Executive Secretary of CfDS, explained that this initiative seeks to broaden the understanding of artificial intelligence policies from various countries so that a responsive and sustainable policy basis will be formed. Over time, CfDS hopes this dashboard can summarize policies from international institutions, social media platforms, and global tech companies.
“Hopefully, we can also have a comparison feature, so just click on which country with which country to compare one policy with another,” said Iradat.
In the talk show “Advancing Indonesia’s Digital Transformation: Embracing Technology for a Digital Society,” Hafiz Noer, Head of Research, also explained that the dashboard is a one-step information center that can help people stay up-to-date with AI policy developments at the global level. This is because the discourse on digital technology is often discussed in our ethics in responding to artificial intelligence (AI).
“For now, the existing regulations are not binding. KOMINFO issued a circular letter on artificial intelligence to discuss the ethics first, so it is more to invite, not binding,” Hafiz explained in the talk show.
The talk show also invited Septiaji Eko Nugroho (Chairman of Mafindo), Alfatika Aunuriella Dini (Lecturer at Faculty of Law UGM), and Dr. Nurhadi Susanto (Vice Dean of FISIPOL UGM). Thus, through Digital Society Week 2024, CfDS Fisipol UGM hopes to be able to bring up new thoughts to ensure that digital transformation can provide stronger social benefits, become a tool to narrow gaps and develop various aspects that support community welfare.
