Yogyakarta, November 27th 2023─Digital transformation has a significant impact on all sectors of life in every element of society, including employment. The demand for prospective workers by the industrial world must certainly be accompanied by an increase in the quality of digital talent in order to create an inclusive work landscape. Responding to this phenomenon, the Center for Digital Society UGM, the Ministry of Communication and Information, Siberkreasi, and the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, have re-presented the Digital Intelligence Course in 2023.
The Digital Intelligence Course (MKKD) program is one of the efforts to improve digital literacy and bridge the skills gap in Indonesia’s education landscape towards increasing quality digital talent for Golden Indonesia 2045. In 2023, the Digital Intelligent Course (Mata Kuliah Kecerdasan Digital or MKKD), has been taking place online since last August with 4,645 participants from various backgrounds, both students and the general public throughout Indonesia.
The program was officially closed through an event entitled “Exploring the Potential of Talents & Careers in the Digital Era”, by inviting Eyla A. Maranny (Fresh Graduate Program Coordinator, DTS Ministry of Communication and Information of the Republic of Indonesia), Firya Q. Abisono (Lecturer of Communication Sciences of UNS & Adjunct Researcher CfDS), Muhammad Andriansa (Algorand Community Champion, Algorand Indonesia), and moderated by Iradat Wirid as Deputy Secretary Executive of CfDS UGM.
When it comes to improving the quality of digital talent today, the role of all parties, including the government, is indispensable. In this case, the Ministry of Communication and Information through its various programs, such as the National Digital Literacy Movement, Digital Talent Scholarship, and Digital Entrepreneurship Academy, is trying to create capable and competitive human resources in today’s digital career world.
“Since 2018, the Ministry of Communication and Information has initiated programs and training that target the entire community to support digital transformation in Indonesia. We also actively embrace all parties to create a strong digital talent ecosystem. Hopefully, this will open up opportunities for digital talents to be competitive in the industrial world,” said Eyla A. Maranny.
Muhammad Adriansa also highlighted the importance of collaboration between the industry and other stakeholders who are pentahelix in every program to improve the quality of Indonesia’s digital talent. “Collaboration involving industry, academia, government, and others will help increase the reach of the audience and the impact of the program more broadly and thoroughly,” said Andriansa.
All training programs should have an objective to create qualified digital talent skills in Indonesia. Firya Q. Abisono said that the MKKD Program is present as an alternative platform for the community to learn the digital skills needed today.
“MKKD can be one of the right tools to teach new knowledge that is not available in formal education. The knowledge and learning gained are believed to be able to support the acceleration of participants’ careers in the era of digital transformation,” said Firya.
Anggia (student of Parahyangan Catholic University) who has attended the Advanced Digital Intelligence Class: Digital Transformation and Elections with Election Corner in 2023 revealed that the material in this class has made her more critical in looking at the course of the upcoming elections in 2024.
“This class is very interesting and relevant to the series of elections in 2024. The material presented is very useful because it comes from lecturers who are experts in politics,” said Nadia.
On another occasion, Arga Pribadi Imawan as the Coordinator of the 2023 Digital Intelligence Course Organizer also argued that digital literacy is crucial to master ahead of the political party in 2024. “The knowledge and materials obtained by the participants through this class are expected to contribute to navigating dangerous content during the 2024 elections in Indonesia,” concluded Arga.
The challenges and opportunities that come as a result of digital transformation must certainly be accompanied by digital skills and literacy to create a competitive digital ecosystem. With multi-stakeholder collaboration, CfDS and other stakeholders will always be committed to accelerating the quality of Indonesia’s digital talent through the Digital Intelligence Course program every year.
