Held virtually on Thursday (04/06), this public dialogue space carried the theme “Towards Living Space Inclusivity: Rawa Tripa and the Remaining Hope.” This event serves as a critical response to the increasingly alarming ecological and agrarian crisis in Rawa Tripa, one of the most important and historic peat swamp ecosystems in Indonesia.

Yogyakarta, 19th May, 2026—In a significant step toward environmental sustainability, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has transformed the parking lot located on the west side of the Bank Mandiri FISIPOL UGM branch into a vibrant green space. This initiative marks a crucial step in the faculty’s commitment to increasing green open spaces within the academic environment.
The transformation of the area is clearly visible, as what was once a crowded parking lot has become a clean expanse of lush green grass and newly planted trees. This change not only beautifies the campus but also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) focused on environmental sustainability and climate action.
Yogyakarta, May 7, 2026—The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) UGM demonstrated its contribution to strengthening community capacity to face disaster risks by participating in the National Disaster Exhibition, part of the 9th Annual Scientific Meeting (PIT) on Disaster. Organized by the Indonesian Association of Disaster Experts (IABI) on May 6–7, 2026, at the Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), the event provided a collaborative space for academics, practitioners, government officials, and the public to showcase innovations, good practices, and tangible contributions to disaster risk reduction in Indonesia.
Yogyakarta, April 26, 2026─The deployment of Fisipol Mengajar volunteers to Central Aceh Regency and the Bala Gadjah Mada Team to the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) from January to February 2026 brought urgency to the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) to hold an event titled “Exhibition and Dissemination of FISIPOL Documentation in Aceh and IKN” on Friday (April 24). This event served as a collaborative space that bridged students’ empirical experiences with academic reflection and policy discourse. Fisipol Mengajar focused on community support in disaster-affected areas in Aceh, with an emphasis on post-disaster educational recovery and strengthening social interaction. Meanwhile, Bala Gadjah Mada initiated an expedition to the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) area focusing on environmental management issues, particularly waste management in the development buffer zone.
Yogyakarta, April 24, 2026 – The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) UGM held an “Exhibition and Dissemination of FISIPOL Volunteer Documentation in Aceh and the IKN.” The event, themed “Recording Teaching, Reflecting on Learning, and Strengthening Service,” took place on Friday (April 24) at 1:00 PM WIB in the 4th Floor Auditorium and West Corridor of FISIPOL UGM.

The Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Gadjah Mada University, Dr. Wawan Mas’udi, expressed his appreciation for the students who are members of the Bala Gadjah Mada Setrajana team who have visited the IKN and the Fisipol Mengajar team in Aceh. “The venues are different, the activities seem different, but they share the same mission: the disaster situation and potential for disaster that require special attention from the campus, so I express my gratitude,” Wawan said in his remarks.

This exhibition presents the track records of two community service programs, namely FISIPOL Mengajar and Bala Gadjah Mada Setrajana.
Despite being in geographically distant locations, these two programs are bound by the same dedication to fundamental issues: education and ecological sustainability. This exhibition does not merely celebrate the completion of a work program; rather, it serves as a medium to voice the actual realities on the ground that often escape media coverage.
Yogyakarta, April 21, 2026—The Chairman of the Regional Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI), Dr. (H.C.) Sultan Baktiar Najamudin, emphasized the strategic role of universities in realizing green democracy in Indonesia.
In his opening remarks, the Dean of FISIPOL UGM, Wawan Mas’udi, emphasized the importance of discussing green democracy amid the current challenges posed by climate change. “With climate change, we are facing the challenge of creating a governance system that is aware of global changes that increasingly require green politics, green policies, and in this case, green democracy,” he said.
A lecturer from the Department of Management and Public Policy (DMKP), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FISIPOL UGM), Indri Dwi Apriliyanti, along with Diwangkara Bagus Nugraha and Indra Overland, has once again demonstrated her academic contribution at the global level through an international journal publication. The article, titled “Explaining Indonesia’s Failed Energy Transition: Mapping Power and Support for Decarbonization among Government Institutions and Actors,” has been published in the reputable Energy Research & Social Science, marking an important achievement in the study of energy transition and policy politics in Indonesia.
A lecturer from the Department of Management and Public Policy (DMKP), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FISIPOL UGM), Bevaola Kusumasari, together with Sakir Ridho Wijaya and Agus Pramusinto, has again achieved a notable academic milestone through the publication of an international journal article titled “How do Policy Network, Local Wisdom, and Green Economy Interact to Shape Sustainable Tourism Governance in Disaster‑Prone Areas?”. The article has been published in the reputable International Journal of Tourism Anthropology, enriching studies on sustainable tourism governance.
