Yogyakarta, March 4, 2026—The Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FISIPOL UGM), held an online open guest lecture entitled “The World of Phenomenology from Schutz’s Outlook” on Wednesday (March 4). This academic event featured Argentine phenomenologist Prof. Carlos Belvedere, a lecturer at the University of Buenos Aires, who examined phenomenology through the perspective of Alfred Schutz.

In his presentation, Prof. Belvedere emphasized that his approach was not a study of the history of thought, but rather a reflection of the practice of phenomenology itself. “My perspective is not that of a historian, but that of a phenomenology practitioner,” he said. He then explored the concept of epoché and its significance in the development of science, inviting participants to reflect on the relationship between science and philosophy, and questioning whether the phenomenological perspective in scientific research is merely an application of philosophical ideas or a reflective foundation for the process of knowledge production. read more

Yogyakarta, March 3, 2026—The Department of International Relations (IR) of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a discussion and statement of intent during the IIS Strategic Talk today at the HI Podcast Studio. The discussion, broadcast live on Instagram and YouTube, highlighted four main points in response to the US-Israeli aggression against Iran.

On February 28, 2026, a month after the US kidnapped President Maduro and seized control of Venezuela’s oil, Israel and the United States launched a military aggression against Iran amid near-complete US-Iran nuclear negotiations. The Head of the Department of International Relations, Dr. Ririn Tri Nurhayati, explained in her presentation, “In the future, anyone, any sovereign nation, has the potential to become a target if actions like this are not stopped.” read more

Yogyakarta, February 13, 2026─The Center for Capacity Development and Cooperation (PPKK) FISIPOL UGM held the first batch of training on Compiling Government Agency Performance Reports (LKJIP) from February 10–13, 2026, in Yogyakarta. Participants came from North Kalimantan Province, Cianjur Regency, Rembang Regency, and Banjarbaru City.

The training was conducted using interactive methods. Participants not only listened to the material from the speakers but also engaged in brainstorming, simulations, and presentations. Participants conducted simulations and presentations on Performance Analysis Techniques, Presentation of LKJIP Documents, Preparation of Environmental Impact Assessment Follow-up to Performance Reports, and Simulation of Complete LKJIP. read more

Yogyakarta, February 12, 2026─The Center for Capacity Development and Cooperation (PPKK) FISIPOL UGM held the first training on preparing Regional Government Implementation Reports and Accountability Statements (LPPD and LKPJ) from February 9-12, 2026, in Yogyakarta. Participants from the Rembang and Muara Enim Regencies participated in this training.

The learning process was conducted using interactive methods. Participants not only listened to the material from the speakers but also engaged in brainstorming, simulations, and presentations. Participants conducted simulations and presentations related to the analysis and presentation of LPPD and LKPJ, as well as the evaluation and follow-up of LPPD and LKPJ. During the simulations, participants also processed and analyzed data using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve the accuracy, effectiveness, and quality of report preparation. read more

Yogyakarta, February 11, 2026─The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) of Universitas Gadjah Mada held a welcoming ceremony for new postgraduate students for the Even Semester of the 2025/2026 Academic Year today (February 11). This event served as an initial introduction for students to the academic environment and postgraduate education system at FISIPOL UGM.

During the event, new students received an introduction to the academic system, including educational evaluation mechanisms, the fast-track program, and the role of research units and study centers within each department. Yogyakarta, February 6, 2026—The Political Science Doctoral Program and the Public Policy and Management (MKP) Undergraduate Program at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) conducted a LAMSPAK Accreditation Field Assessment on Friday (February 6) as part of their efforts to ensure and continuously improve the quality of education.

The Institute of International Studies (IIS), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada, in collaboration with UN Women Indonesia, has officially launched the Feminist Participatory Action Research (FPAR) Report. This report highlights gender inequality and the intersecting vulnerabilities faced by women in fragile contexts.

The study examines the root causes of gender inequality across settings shaped by disasters, social conflict, and violent extremism. Conducted in Kupang (East Nusa Tenggara), Bima (West Nusa Tenggara), and Sigi (Central Sulawesi), the research adopts a participatory approach that positions women as active subjects rather than passive objects of study. read more

This selection test was conducted to fill the positions of Carik, Bulus Kidul Hamlet, Pakisaji Hamlet, Baratan Hamlet, and Nepen Hamlet. The test took place at the Candibinangun Village Hall. The UGM Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) Capacity Development and Cooperation Center (PPKK) served as the examining team. read more
