Yogyakarta, 5 March 2020—The progress of Career Development Center, also known as CDC, within the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences can be said that it has been able to help the students to improve their capacity development. As one of the capacity development institution which located in the campus, CDC always tries to arrange programs that correspond to the interests and talents of the Fisipol students. This was also stated by the Head of Development and Capacity Division CDC, Alifia Nuarifia, that the programs that will and are still being held by the CDC are the result of the Fisipol students’ participation. By giving a survey related to the program that interesting for the students, CDC will do a crosscheck and arrange the programs that will represent the interests of the students.
There are lots of programs that have been held by CDC, one of them is Spanish Class Program. This Spanish Class Program is an agenda that being held in the middle of this second semester and cooperate with an institution, Spanish – Indonesian Institution or Lembaga Indonesia Spanyol (LIS). Basically, this Language Class Program has been run by the CDC since 2019 with Thai Language Program as the first Language Class Program. By considering student’s interests in Spanish, therefore this program is held by CDC. Spanish classes are held routinely every Tuesday and Thursday from 03.00 p.m. until 04.30 p.m. in Fisipol. Language Class becomes one of the programs that attracts many students, there are at least 21 students enrolled in this Spanish Class.
By filling the registration form and paying commitment fee in the beginning as a step to join this class, the students are expected to attend all of the 14 class meetings. This program is being more interesting because it presents professional mentors, both native speakers and teachers of LIS. This Spanish Class Program of CDC also represents the concern of campus’ authorities towards Fisipol students which prepare themselves to join exchange program, international exposure, or for their preparation into the work life later. Spanish Class Program also becomes a program where students can improve their foreign languages skill.
In the implementation of Spanish Class on Thursday, 5 March 2020 also showed the enthusiasm of the students. This class began with the presentation and review from the mentors. The students also participated in the games such as spelling words and memorizing numbers in Spanish. Learning process from the mentors is done in two-way learning process. The students were always given the opportunity to ask during the learning process.
Claudia, the mentor from LIS for Spanish Class Program, said that this class was very fun. Be able to meet and teach the students who were enthusiast in learning Spanish gave a good impression to this mentor, considering this was her first experience teaching in this Spanish Class Program. Claudia hoped that the students’ commitment can last until the end of the program.
