The Excitement of Ramadan in Fisipol, JMF Presents Togetherness and Gathering in the Holy Month

Yogyakarta, April 1st 2024─The blessed month of Ramadan is not complete without gathering and sharing. Jamah Muslim Fisipol (JMF) once again held a series of Ramadan in Fisipol (RDF) 2024 from March 25-28, 2024. Not only an annual event every Ramadan, RDF also presents togetherness in undergoing worship in the holy month with exciting and interesting activities.

“RDF is a routine event every Ramadan organized by JMF. One thing we know is that this event has been running in 2018, and until now it continues to run. The purpose of RDF is as an event for JMF to do dawah to the Fisipol community. JMF wants the residents of Fisipol to be more excited in welcoming and undergoing activities in the month of Ramadan with various exciting and interesting activities on the Fisipol campus,” said Aqil, as Chairperson of JMF. The entire academic community of Fisipol UGM also participated in a series of RDF events, ranging from studies, sharing free takjil, to the Ramadan Market.

This year’s spiritual inspiration and RDF study raised the theme “Ramadan in the Contemporary Era: Challenges, Opportunities, and Good deeds in the Frame of a Pluralist Society” by Mulyadi Erman, M.A., Lecturer at Faculty of Philosophy UGM. The study discussed how the community can adjust the acts of worship and their prohibitions with the development of the digital era. The existence of social media as a channel of information as well as communication media has changed the lifestyle of society. The ease of access and speed have led to interaction, information exchange, and digital communities that can be accessed by anyone, without being limited by time and space. As a result, hoaxes and misinformation often become hot issues on social media.

One example is the hate speech that many Indonesian digital communities use in response to a post. If in fact during fasting Muslims are encouraged to spread kindness, and not spread hatred, then the same thing also needs to be applied in this era. Hate speech in the form of uploads, comments, misinformation, and others is one form of habit that must be abandoned. Hopefully, not only during the fasting month, but also while surfing social media, people can participate in realizing a healthy and moral internet.

In addition to the study, during the four days of RDF, JMF held a free takjil distribution and Ramadan Market. For students who want to take free takjil, they only need to take a coupon after participating in various RDF activities. Not only that, students can also buy takjil and food to break their fast at the Ramadan Market located in Sansiro Park, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM. This Ramadan market is a collaboration between JMF and the Student Activity Unit (UKM). Various unique and appetizing snacks managed to attract attention in the middle of the Sansiro Park’s crowd. RDF also provided a polaroid corner for students to capture moments of excitement during the event.

“The series of activities are different every year. For this year, the series of activities are Islamic Studies, Free Takjil Fisipol, Ramadhan Market, Interactive Fun Games, Live Acoustic Performance, Polaroid Corner, and Social Service to the children at Al-Khoir Mosque, Kalimosodo, Ambarrukmo,” said Aqil. Interestingly, apart from holding fun activities and studies at Fisipol, JMF also shared kindness with the children of the Al-Quran Education Park (TPA), Ambarrukmo. JMF friends presented games and various unique games with prizes in the form of snacks that resulted in smiles of happiness. This activity is also a form of contribution and contribution of Fisipol students to the community.

Aqil added that the Ramadan activities at Fisipol are expected to continue forever. There will be many interesting surprises every year, with a different atmosphere. JMF as one of the student associations in the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences hopes that the annual RDF activity will be able to strengthen the relationship with the academic community of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM, as well as become a forum for cooperation and community service. Aqil also stated that JMF accepts all forms of cooperation with any party, considering that this campus event is very popular with students.

The RDF activity by Jamaah Muslim Fisipol (JMF) is a form of student participation in realizing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4, 2, and 10. Students not only organize sharing and gathering activities, but also learn to contribute through simple activities to help the community in reducing social inequality.
