APINDO and FISIPOL UGM Established a Cooperation in the MBKM Internship Program

Yogyakarta, January 12th 2022Indonesia Businessman Association (APINDO) and Gadjah Mada University Faculty of Social and Political Science (Fisipol UGM) established a cooperation in terms of providing internships for UGM university students in APINDO companies on Wednesday (12/1/2022). The interns will be placed in APINDO member companies and Apindo Partner Companies for three to six months.

The cooperation is a form of support from the industry and academic world for the government that aims to fulfill the state’s strategic goals which is creating excellent human resources. This cooperation is also an implementation of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program that was initiated by the Republic of Indonesia’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology.

According to the Leader of APINDO, Hariyadi B. Sukamdani, the business world appreciates the internship program held in cooperation with universities considering that APINDO would like to create a bigger job field. Before this cooperation, APINDO held an internship program for middle school students.

Furthermore, Hariyadi added that the internship program needs to be adjusted to the status quo of the industry so that students can receive knowledge that is up to date with the needs of the working world.

“The industrial activity is predicted to shrink 30% compared to 2019 because of the pandemic. Hence, the internship program hopefully can increase student’s capacity after their studies so that they can be ready to start to work in the formal sector or create their own business,” Hariyadi said.

Meanwhile, the Dean of Fisipol UGM, Wawan Mas’udi said that the internship program can be seen as a transformation of learning method to gain competence, skill, and knowledge. The right method of study in a dynamic world is no longer just staying in class. That is why Fisipol UGM is very excited to welcome this internship program.

“One of the best ways to study is to wed theories that students get in their class to reality, that is why internships are a great way to learn,” Wawan said.

Wawan added that Fisipol UGM will try to match the competence that the university students get in the internship program with the contribution that students can give in the internship company. Hopefully, the workers in the company can become a mentor for the students.
