Yogyakarta, January 30th 2023─The Institute for Policy Development (POLDEV) of the Faculty of Social and Political Science Gadjah Mada University (Fisipol UGM) created a website dashboard or the UniTrend platform which was launched on Tuesday (30/1). In the launching event, there was also a discussion titled “The Turbulence Towards Development in the Political Year” which was filled with many speakers such as Ignatius Ardhana Reswara, Project Manager UniTrend; Media Wahyudi Askar, Direktur POLDEV; Wahyudi Kumorotomo, as the Head of the MKP Public Policy DepartmentFadli Ramdhanil, the Program Manager of Perludem; Mirah Midadan Fahmid, INDEF Economist; and was moderated by Jefri Andika Pakpahan, Researcher of POLDEV.
Yogyakarta, January 26th 2023─With the end of duty of Prof. Dr. Muhadjir Muhammad Darwin, Department of Public Policy Management (DMKP) of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Gadjah Mada University (FISIPOL UGM) held a Retirement Seminar on Thursday (26/1) at the Auditorium Mandiri of FISIPOL UGM as well as online on Zoom. The seminar with the theme Contemporary Gender Issues: Challenges and Policy Responses also aims to appreciate Prof. Muhadjir for his contribution so far, both in the form of scientific development and dedication to the field of gender studies and public policy.
Yogyakarta, January 24th 2023─Fisipol UGM’s Jagatara Team won second place in the Retorikalbis 2023 PR Campaign competition on Wednesday (11/1). The team was led by Kamila Rahmatul with Joanna C Banjarnahor and Reksan Ridho as the members. The three of them are students of the Communication Studies Department.
The competition that was held online by Kalbis Institute and Astra Honda Motor Institute was held from November 2022 until January with the theme of “Gen Z: Ride for Life”. In the competition, the Jagratara team centered its proposal around the concept of safe driving with “Ride Freely Ride Safety” as the title of the campaign. “The campaign that we are trying to mount is aimed to educate and increase Gen Z’s awareness that they can ride freely, but they need to ensure their safety,” Joanna said. In their campaign proposal, the Jagratara team offered several campaign tactics that included roadshows to schools and universities in Jogja, the production of web series content, as well as optimization of social media.
Yogyakarta, January 24th 2022─Issues related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) are increasingly prevalent in society. These various artificial intelligences are now being used because they are considered more effective and practical, and allow anyone to produce work easily. In response to this discourse, the Center for Digital Society (CfDS) of FISIPOL UGM held Difussion #83 discussion series entitled “Legality in the Digital Era: The Revealance of IP on Regulating AI-Generated Arts” on Tuesday (24/1).
Yogyakarta, January 5th 2023─Responding to the issue of global warming caused by carbon emissions, the government is innovating to increase the use of biofuels in society. The process of extracting resources, processing, and utilizing biofuel certainly involves many parties, including political actors. This is the background for the workshop which was held as part of the “Fisipol UGM X University of Tennessee Lecture Series” on Wednesday (4/1).
The workshop with the theme “Politics of Biofuels” discussed political issues in the use of biofuels as a result analysis of Dr. Paul K. Gellert from the University of Tennessee, United States. “The biofuel policy aims to reduce carbon emissions by 2030, but we cannot deny that biofuel production also causes deforestation. That is why the government has made production rights allocations for several parties,” said Paul. He also explained that the costly production of biofuels certainly takes a large portion of state subsidies. Unfortunately, this subsidy is what the majority of corporations want, so they are competing for the allocation of biofuel production rights.
Yogyakarta, December 29th 2022—Magister Program in Communication Science Program at Faculty of Social and Political Sciences Universitas Gadjah Mada held a student communication discussion called Diskoma Edisi 5 on Thursday (29/12). This discussion discusses various public communication issues in Indonesia in 2022. In this virtual discussion, Dr. Nahria, S. Sos., M.Sc. (Lecturer at Universitas Muhammadiyah Papua), Andi Fauziah Astrid S. Sos, M.Sc (Lecturer at UIN Alauddin Makassar), Nyarwi Ahmad, S.I.P., M.Sc., Ph.D. (Lecturer at Universitas Gadjah Mada), and Ferdinandus Jehalut, S.Fil. (Student of Magister Program in Communication Science UGM).
Yogyakarta, December 27th 2022—With the aim to implement Carbon Economic Value (NEK) in the peatland and mangrove sectors, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences Gadjah Mada University (FISIPOL UGM) held a hybrid Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on Tuesday (27/12) at Auditorium Mandiri Fisipol UGM. The FGD, which was held in collaboration with Badan Restorasi Gambut dan Mangrove, brings “Implementation of Carbon Economic Value (NEK) Policies in Implementing Peatland Restoration and Mangrove Rehabilitation” as the main topic.
“We see that there are not many practices or cultivation packages that provide herbal plant commodities, so we want to answer these two basic ideas at once so we design a package for herbal plant cultivation,” said Ubaidillah.
Ubaidillah, more commonly called Ubed, talked about the process he went through throughout the competition, starting from creating ideas to creating proposals. The proposal-making process is also pretty complex. Other than making a business model and budget and marketing plan, they also need to make the design of the product.
Yogyakarta, December 20th 2022─Responding to an increase in investment trends among the youth, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is collaborating with an investment platform, Pluang, to increase financial literacy. This collaboration was realized in a talk show entitled “Smart Investment for Smart Generation: Financial Trends for Young People ahead of 2023” which was held on Tuesday (20/12) at the Mandiri Fisipol UGM Auditorium.
The collaboration between UGM and Pluang was welcomed by the Chancellor of UGM, Prof. dr. Ova Emilia, M.Med.Ed., Sp.OG(K)., Ph.D. “I think by being given information like this, more and more students will be interested and invest smartly, which won’t be detrimental,” Ova said when giving a speech. According to her, financial literacy will prevent students from being trapped in bad investments.
