CfDS Diffusion #60: Can Social Media Campaigns Attract Youngsters?

Yogyakarta, September 13th 2021─Diffusion #60: Social Media Campaign:Can It Attract Youngsters? was held by the Center for Digital Society (CfDS) Fisipol UGM with BEM Fisip Universitas Riau through a Zoom Meeting last Monday (13/9). Hafiz Noer as CfDS’ Research Associate and Nurul Amalia as a researcher in Association for Election and Democracy (Perludem) are the speakers. 

Hafiz Noer talked about the social media campaign aimed towards the millennial and Z generation. According to Hafiz, social media is now an alternative public sphere that can break through conventional barriers. “The cyber public sphere is more dynamic and egalitarian, therefore there are a lot of active youngsters there. Hence, the political cyberspace can also raise the awareness of youngsters,” said Hafiz. In his session, Hafiz also said that social media is not only meant for campaigns but also for socialization.  read more

Stock Strategy for Beginners in a Pandemic Period

Yogyakarta, September 12th 2021─GAMAPI and KAPSTRA Fisipol UGM held an Acitya Webinar with the title “Stock Strategy for Beginners in a Pandemic Period” on (12/09). This event is held online and is a collaboration between GAMAPI’s entrepreneurship division and KAPSTRA’s creative economy. On this occasion, the presenters were quite interesting, namely Fischa Dwi Choirina as the Capital Market Educator for understanding stocks. In addition, this event was moderated by Bhram Raditya K. as the Deputy Chair of ESM FEB UGM and was attended by 240 webinar participants. In general, the discussion in the webinar explores various information about investing and stocks, ranging from the importance of having an investment mindset to safe investing tips for beginners. read more

Yogyakarta, September 11th  2021─Usually, fresh graduates are confused about how to jump into their career world. This is the reason behind the RISETalk #16 events titled “Fresh Graduates, Don’t be Confused!” held by the Youth Studies Center (YouSure) Fisipol UGM with Rise Foundation on Saturday (11/9). Fisipol UGM Library Creates an Online and Digital Service

Yogyakarta, September 11th 2021–UGM Library held Library Update #8 with the theme of Library Service for Social and Humanities Cluster with Fisipol and UGM Law Faculty (10/9). On this occasion, Yuli Hesti Wahyuningsih as the Coordinator of Fisipol UGM Library said that the Fisipol Library is developing a centralized system for an electronic based service which is through the digilib.fisipol.ugm.ac.id.

Fisipol students can access Electronic Thesis and Dissertation (ETD) through the website. New students of batch 2021 can directly go to the website using their SSO UGM account to fully access the ETD because they are already registered in the system. Students can also access the book catalogue made by the Fisipol Library that has been converted to an electronic book catalogue. In regards to electronic journals, students can access lib.ugm.ac.id managed by the Central Library of UGM. In the future, digilib.fisipol.ugm.ac.id will also provide access to supporting links or platforms for the academic reference of students, including E-Library and Kubuku.  read more

ASEAN Innovative Policy Conference: Emphasizing Public Value in Addressing Perpetual Social Issues

=&0=&─The Student Corps of Public Policy and Management Department FISIPOL UGM held the Asean Innovative Policy Conference (AIPC). With the theme “Innovative Youths in Action: Emphasizing Public Value in Addressing Perpetual Social Issues”, this event is a part of the Public Action 2021 event. The annual event is held online through Zoom. 

This year, Public Action shone a light on several issues and challenges related to ASEAN’s three community pillars. First, the concern about the social and environmental impact in the consumption and production chain of the fast fashion industry considering that most fast fashion industries created their factories in developing countries because the cost is lower. Second, the importance of support for indigenous community’s rights to welfare, especially concerning their access to the public and market. Third, the difficulties in implementing democratic values, especially the freedom of speech and expression in the era of digital democracy.  read more

Collaboration between Briwork and PPC Dikom Fisipol UGM in Food Photography Workshop

Yogyakarta, September 10th 2021─Briwork Fisipol UGM together with the Semi-Autonomous Agency for Photography (Publisia Photo Club of the Department of Communication Science/Dikom of UGM) held Workshop #2 with the theme Food Photography. By presenting Putri Khansa (Instagram Food Photographer @khansa.cekrek) as a speaker, the implementation of Workshop #2 was carried out in three stages, starting from a material presentation session, a question and answer session, to closing with a mini workshop session by conducting several photo assessments of food products by the speaker. read more

Graduate Student Symposium on Communication Science (GSSC) 2021: Response to Communication Science in a Pandemic Circuit

=&0=&The Master Program of Communication Science of Universitas Gadjah Mada held the 2021 Graduate Student Symposium on Communication Science (GSSC) on Thursday (9/9). The event, which was held online, raised the theme “Response of Communication Science in a Pandemic Circuit: Challenges of Public Communication in Disruption of Digital Transformation” which was attended by approximately 130 participants from all over Indonesia. GSSC 2021 was officially opened by Wawan Mas’udi, S.IP., M.P.A., Ph.D as the Dean of FISIPOL UGM, he hopes that the GSSC 2021 symposium forum will become a space for the exchange of ideas and interactive dialogue with all parties in order to carry out the function of the university as a place for knowledge dissemination. The focus of the agenda on this first day was the presentation of topics from speakers and panelists.

Prof. Dr. Phil Hermin Indah Wahyuni, S.IP., M.Sc. as the Keynote Speaker conveyed three main ideas about the role of communication in responding to the pandemic. First, the idea that communication is upstream and downstream of the problem. Second, the entropy paradox of public communication systems in the new media era. Third, the scientific challenge to respond to the complexity of the pandemic problem is a moment of contribution to the development of a better society. “This means that as a communication scientist, we must continue to be creative in developing research that offers a new perspective following trends and developments in the empirical world which is extremely dynamic,” Hermin said. read more

Held for the first time on Wednesday (8/9), the Ask Me Anything session of the Digital Intelligence class collaborated with Google Indonesia to delve deeper into “Digital Entrepreneurship: Next Level of Business in the Digital Era” with the general public, not limited to participants. In the Ask Me Anything session which was hosted by Iradat Wirid as the Manager of the Digital Intelligence 2021 course, the speakers and participants had the opportunity to discuss how to run entrepreneurship with digital technologies that are now available, especially those on the Google platform. read more

Disabled and Sexual Violence

Yogyakarta, September 3rd 2021─FISIPOL CRISIS Center (FCC) UGM organizes the safe social space webinar with the title “Disabled and Sexual Violence”. The event was held online and presented two speakers namely Sarli Zulhendra, a member of the Sigab Advocacy Team and Alexander Farrel, one of the disabled students of UGM. In addition, this webinar also presented two signal interpreters, so the event was held quite inclusive. On this occasion, the event was attended by 48 participants with a discussion on sexual violence against disabilities, ways that could be done to prevent sexual violence, and ethics to serve disabled in handling cases of sexual violence. read more
