Fourth Discussion Session about “The Rise of Social Solidarity In The Midst of Covid-19”

Yogyakarta, April 13th 2020—In the fourth session of the Gadjah Mada University’s Faculty of Social and Political Science discussion series about the covid-19 management, the topic was about “The Rise of Social Solidarity in the Midst of Covid-19”. The speakers were Dr. Arie Sudjito and Mrs. Fina Itriyati M.A. As usual, this discussion series can be accessed by everyone, even those outside Gadjah Mada University. Digital Discussion #16: Together Against Covid-19 Hoaxes!

Yogyakarta, April 9th, 2020—COVID-19 pandemic is widely known as a problem throughout the world, including Indonesia. With the number of patients and deaths increasing, all parties are working together to inhibit the rate of spread of this virus. The rise of hoaxes amidst this crucial situation is inevitable. Along with the cause of panic in society, hoaxes also made people apply “health” tips that have not been scientifically proven. Hence, Center for Digital Society (CfDS) of Faculty of Social and Political Science UGM (Fisipol UGM) invited Smart People to recognize and fight the COVID-19 hoaxes in Digital Discussion #16: “Countering Hoax COVID-19”. read more

Gadjah Mada University’s Faculty of Social and Political Science Distributed Aid to Help Students Amidst the Covid-19 Pandemic

Yogyakarta, April 8th 2020—Gadjah Mada University’s Faculty of Social and Political Science gave several goods to help students of the faculty that still stays in Yogyakarta amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. The aid was in the form of frying oil, noodles, rice, milk, and other basic necessities. Through the Student Board of Faculty of Social and Political Science (FISIPOL), the aid was distributed since April 1st 2020.

Before getting the aid, university students have to register themselves through a form shared by the Fisipol Student Board. In that form, university students are asked to give a description about where they are staying and what they currently need. Other than that, university students can also report when they feel symptoms such as a sore throat, cough, shortness of breath, or high fever. The fisipol student board will then give several directions to further treat those symptoms. read more

Discussion Series #2: COVID-19 and Coordination Crisis

Yogyakarta, 3rd April 2020—”Coordination is really important because we are facing an extraordinary crisis phase. In the normal situation, the highest risks of no coordination are inefficiency or corruption. But in this crisis situation, the risks are our family lives, our brothers and sisters lives, and humanity,” Cornelis Lay said in the Discussion Series Fisipol UGM on the last Friday (3/4).

It presented two professors from the Department of Politics and Government, Purwo Santoso and Cornelis Lay brought an issue about state’s coordination crisis towards COVID-19 in the Covid-19 Crisis Management Discussion Series that held online through Zoom and YouTube Live. According to Cornelis Lay, as known as Conny, coordination needs clear direction of communication. “We do not have equal informations, do not have a clear direction of communication towards each other, and it makes tremendous confusion on the public level, it makes public wonder what the government is really doing, distrust also emerged from the public,” Conny said. read more

Considering the Dangers of Plagiarism in Digital Discussion #15: ‘Plagiarism, No More!’

Yogyakarta, 2 April 2020—Plagiarism seems to be a topic that is close to the students because every assignments that they do should be free from plagiarism. It becomes more relevant because the midterm exam season has begun—which means the students should do a series of assignments as the substitute of midterm exam, therefore the issue of plagiarism becomes really important to be discussed. Discussion Series #1: Government’s Late Policies on Covid-19 Crisis

Yogyakarta, April 1st 2020—On dealing with an unprecedented crisis that could trigger a fundamental social, political, and economic change worldwide, the Faculty of Social Science and Politics of Gadjah Mada University held a discussion series titled “COVID-19 Crisis Management”. These discussion series are held in order to understand the dynamics and management of response of the Covid-19 pandemic. The discussion is also held to give feedbacks to various stakeholders.

The discussion about Covid-19 crisis management will be divided into six series in which all of them will be held through video conference platform called Cisco WebEx. The first series of discussion titled “Policy Dynamics of COVID-19 Crisis” was held on Wednesday, April 1st 2020 on 01.00 pm. This discussion, which was attended by 211 people, had Prof. Dr. Erwan Agus Purwanto, Prof. Dr. Wahyudi Kumorotomo, and Dr. Ambar Widaningrum as the speakers. Faculty of Social Science and Politics Held an Online Dean Hearing to Respond to the Complaints about Online Class

Yogyakarta, March 30th 2020 – It has already been two weeks since the online learning process starts. The learning process which used to be held with a “face to face” method, is now held through online platforms such as Webex, Zoom, Google Classroom, or Whatsapp Groups (WAG). Gadjah Mada University’s instruction for all scholars to use online platforms was issued to minimalize the spread of Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia. The term social distancing is familiar in the midst of this global pandemic. A term that asks people to minimize social contact for the time being. This policy creates some pros and cons in the society because of several effects that the policy made, especially in the aspect of economy. read more

Discussing the Reflection of Family Resilience Bill from the Youths and Women’s Perspectives in Bincang Muda by YouSure

Yogyakarta, 27th March 2020 — Youth Studies Center or YouSure Fisipol held another Bincang Muda (The Youth Talk) discussion. YouSure’s online Bincang Muda discussion’s topic was ‘Reflection of Family Resilience Bill from the Youths and Women’s Perspectives’, it was held online through WhatsApp Group. The participants that joined in this Bincang Muda discussion already signed up through the link that uploaded on YouSure FISIPOL’s Instagram account. The discussion was started at 06.00 p.m. and a few hours before the discussion started, the participants were contacted to join into WhatsApp Group that had been provided. read more

Digital Discussion #14: Impressive Essay Writing 101

Yogyakarta, 27th March 2020 – Research center Center for Digital Society or CfDS Fisipol UGM held another online discussion with the theme ‘Digital Discussion #14: Impressive Essay Writing 101’ in March, 27th 2020. The discussion was held in the WhatsApp Group with 168 participants from various faculties and universities. This time, Digital Discussion by CfDS invited the speaker of this discussion, Anisa Pratita Mantovani, LLM as the Manager of Research CfDS which later called as Mbak Tita, and the moderator Made Bayu Agus Sudharma as the Event Staff CfDS that moderated the discussion. read more

Sharing Session with Creative HUB and Block71 Yogyakarta

Yogyakarta, March 26th, 2020— Creative HUB conducted a sharing session with Kopi Chat – the signature event held once a month initiated by Block71 Yogyakarta. Creative HUB itself is a social incubator at the UGM Faculty of Social and Political Science (Fisipol UGM), whereas Block 71 Yogyakarta is one of the ecosystem builder or start-up partnerships in Yogyakarta between NUS Enterprise and Salim Group. Considering the COVID-19 Pandemic where physical interaction or meeting in person is prohibited, the session which formerly planned to take place at the BRI Work Fisipol UGM was altered via live stream on Instagram accounts of @block71yogyakarta and @chubfisipol on March 26, 2020, indeed at 16.00 WIB. read more
