Yogyakarta, 8 November 2019—“Several Indonesian unicorns trust us to keep their data,” as stated by Gunawan Susanto in Fisipol’s Big Data Lab. He was referring to Amazon Web Services (AWS). AWS is a service that provides cloud computing for businesses. Gunawan is the Country General Manager of AWS Indonesia. He is responsible for planning the marketing and the corporate strategy of AWS for Indonesia’s digital economy.

To the audience, Gunawan presented his presentation in English, since several foreign Fisipol students also attended this discussion. However, this wasn’t a problem at all, as the audience were able to understand him, and this discussion was fluid. “A place to store our clients’ data needs to be secure and effective. Yogyakarta, 29 October 2019—In order to raise awareness of the youth on gender-based violence, YouSure held a discussion entitled “The Youth and Safe Space Crisis: The Need to Raise Awareness on Gender-Based Violence.” This type of violence can occur at anytime, anywhere and to anyone. An abusive relationship is an example of a gender-based violence that happens in someone’s private life, while cases of groping in public transport is an example of gender-based violence that happens in public spaces. Hence, the Center for Digital Society (CfDS) held a press conference regarding the popularity of the ministers in the new cabinet. This press conference was held on the BC Building of Fisipol. Yogyakarta, 25 October 2019—In last Friday’s Digitalk, the Center for Digital Society (CfDS) encouraged the youth to spread positive contents about Indonesia on social media.

Entitled “Building Gen Z’s Optimism Through Positive Content,” this edition of Digitalk was held in the Mandiri Auditorium of Fisipol. This event was attended by hundreds of participants. The speaker was Akhyari Hananto, an award-winning content producer and the founder of Good News from Indonesia (GNFI).

“As netizens, we can express our love for our nation by spreading positive news from Indonesia through social media,” as stated by Fedryno Geza, the moderator. Akhyari then shared his story of establishing GNFI. He founded GNFI when he was living in the United Kingdom, in which not many of the people there were familiar with Indonesia. read more

Yogyakarta, 24 October 2019—The UN celebrated its 74^th anniversary this October. Today, the youth are playing a significant role in international politics. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) highlight the importance of the youth in achieving these goals.

The youth can contribute in fulfilling the SDGs in their daily lives, according to Vania Santoso, the Project Officer of UNICEF in Indonesia. Vania was one of the panellists in the United Nations Day 2019, which was held by GEO Fisipol and the United Nations Information Center (UNIC). Yogyakarta, 16 October 2019—Fisipol UGM won several awards during the UGM awarding night for high achievers. This awarding night was held in the courtyard of the UGM central building and was held to celebrate the 14^th lustrum and the 70^th Dies Natalis of UGM.

The Kandang, a band from the Faculty of Engineering of UGM, enlivened this event. Faculty members of UGM participated in this event, ranging from students, staffs, lecturers and even alumni. Numerous awards were given at that night, starting from the university level, the national level and until the international level. Yogyakarta, 11 October 2019—The Institute of International Studies (IIS) of UGM held the 5^th edition of Beyond the Great Wall, entitled “China’s Expanding Trade Relations: Opportunities and Challenges.” This discussion was held in the faculty meeting room.

Umi Qodarisasi, lecturer from the Political Thoughts Study Programme of the State Islamic Institute of Kudus (IAIN Kudus), filled the first half of the discussion. She presented the topic of “The Rise of China in Africa.” The economy of African states is rapidly growing. This growth is propelled by advancements in information and communications technology, globalization, urbanization and the sheer number of the African population that is currently on the working age. read more

Yogyakarta, 8 October 2019—Fisipol’s Jurnal Ilmu Sosial dan Ilmu Politik (JSP) (Journal of Social Sciences and Political Sciences) have been indexed by Scopus on Friday (4/10). JSP, which was first published in 1997, is currently open for anyone to read. In 2016, JSP received a national accreditation from the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia with a Sinta 2 rating. JSP focuses on contemporary social and political issues, such as gender, identity politics, digital disruption, civil society movements, welfare, social development, citizenship, public policy and innovations in governance. Other issues such as international politics and security, the media, political literacy, democracy, radicalism and terrorism are also included in JSP. read more
