Collaboration between Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM and UIN Mataram to Respond to Development Progress in West Nusa Tenggara

Mataram, March 5th 2024─Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Fisipol) of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) established an initial collaboration with State Islamic University (UIN) Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara through a visit on Monday (5/3) at UIN Mataram Meeting Room. During the visit, Fisipol UGM presented Prof. Dr. Suharko (Chairman of the Senate of Fisipol UGM), Dr. Nurhadi Susanto (Vice Dean for Finance, Assets, and Human Resources), to each representative of the department chairman, department secretary, head of administrative office, field coordinator and secretariat team. Meanwhile, the visit was attended by the Vice Rector 3 of UIN Mataram, Prof. Dr. Subhan Acim, MA, Prof. M.S Udin, M.Ag (Chairman of the UIN Mataram Senate), Dr. Saleh Ending, M.Si (Dean of the Faculty of Da’wah and Communication Sciences), Prof. Dr. Winengan, M.Si (Chairman of LPM UIN Mataram), and Head of Student Affairs of LPM UIN Mataram, Dr. Agus, M.Si.

“Of course there is much that we can collaborate on in order to build the nation and state as well as the development of science and technology,” said Prof. Dr. Subhan Acim, MA, conveying the vision of UIN Mataram as a university that is very open to all science and technological knowledges.

In response, Vice Dean for Finance, Assets, and Human Resources, Dr. Nurhadi Susanto said, “The development of UIN Mataram is very rapid and the studies are very contextual, so we are very interested in being able to collaborate in research, community service, and education.”

There are several developing issues that were initiated as objects of collaboration in this discussion, such as the issues of civil society and democracy, to issues of religious moderation and statehood. This discussion also initiated concrete forms of collaboration such as joint research on the dynamics of the role of civil society in Nusa Tenggara Barat.

This issue is a priority study in mapping the research issues of lecturers and students at FISIPOL UGM. In addition, joint teaching collaboration on Democracy, Social Policy, Election Governance, and Communication courses was also initiated. Meanwhile, the collaboration between FISIPOL UGM and UIN Mataram was built in order to respond to the progress of development in the Province of Nusa Tenggara Barat which is considered to have experienced a lot of progress, especially in the field of tourism. In fact, this collaboration in the future is expected to be a priority for studying the Eastern Indonesia region.
