Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Collaborates with the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) of Gadjah Mada University (UGM) to Hold a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on Public Consultation of the Draft Law on Population

Yogyakarta, March 12, 2026 ─ The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) entitled “Public Consultation on the Draft Law on Population” on Thursday (March 12) in the FISIPOL UGM Dean’s Meeting Room. The event was attended by the Deputy Chair of Commission II of the DPR RI, Zulfikar Arse Sadikin, S.I.P., M.Si., and the Head of the Center for Law Drafting (PUU) for Political, Legal, and Human Rights, Novianto Murti Hartanto, S.H., M.H.

The event was officially opened by the Dean of FISIPOL UGM, Wawan Mas’udi, Ph.D. In his remarks, Wawan emphasized that population administration issues are the main foundation of good governance. “The issue of the main administration is at the root of the entire service system and is an obligation for which the state must be accountable. It’s not just about what services are provided, but how the state can properly and accurately administer its citizens from the outset,” he said.

The main discussion session featured presentations by UGM academic experts, namely Prof. Dr. Mailinda Eka Yuniza, S.H., LL.M. (Faculty of Law) and Dr. Nurhadi Susanto (FISIPOL) as resource persons. The discussion was then comprehensively addressed by accompanying academics from FISIPOL, the Faculty of Law, and the Department of Computer Science and Electronics, Gadjah Mada University. Also present to provide comments were representatives from the Yogyakarta Province Community Empowerment, Village, Population and Civil Registration Office, the Yogyakarta City Population and Civil Registration Office, and the Yogyakarta BPJS Kesehatan (Social Security Agency for Health).
