The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FISIPOL UGM), once again held the Dean’s Hearing 2026, an open dialogue forum between students and the faculty leadership, on Wednesday (June 10). Held at the West Corridor of FISIPOL UGM, the event served as a platform for students to voice their aspirations, suggestions, and constructive feedback regarding various aspects of academic life and faculty governance.
The forum was attended by the Dean and members of the faculty leadership, faculty administrators, department representatives, as well as students representing various student organizations and communities within FISIPOL UGM. The participation of diverse members of the academic community reflected the faculty’s shared commitment to fostering open communication and participatory governance in the continuous development of the institution.
This year’s hearing focused on three main issues: Tuition Fees (UKT), the management and maintenance of FISIPOL UGM facilities, and the selection process for the Dean of FISIPOL UGM. These topics were identified as key concerns among students, as they directly affect the learning experience, accessibility of services, and institutional governance within the faculty.
Through the open dialogue session, students had the opportunity to express their views, raise questions, and provide direct input to the faculty leadership. The wide range of perspectives shared during the discussion became an important part of the faculty’s ongoing efforts to evaluate and improve its policies and services.
The discussion was highly interactive, featuring two-way communication between students and the faculty leadership. The Dean, vice deans, faculty administrators, and department representatives responded directly to the concerns raised by students by providing explanations, clarifications, and feedback. This exchange was expected to strengthen mutual understanding while fostering greater trust between students and the faculty management.
The Dean’s Hearing is a regular agenda and serves as one of the faculty’s key mechanisms for promoting transparent, responsive, and student-oriented governance. Through this forum, FISIPOL UGM seeks to ensure that students’ voices are meaningfully incorporated into the faculty’s decision-making processes and policy development.
Looking ahead, the Dean’s Hearing is expected to serve not only as a platform for expressing aspirations but also as a collaborative space where students and faculty leaders work together to develop solutions to the challenges faced by the faculty. By encouraging open and constructive communication, FISIPOL UGM remains committed to cultivating an inclusive, democratic, and supportive academic environment for all members of its academic community.
This initiative also reflects FISIPOL UGM’s commitment to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, by fostering an inclusive and participatory learning environment; SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, by providing equal opportunities for all students to voice their aspirations; and SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, by strengthening transparency, accountability, and participation in institutional governance. Through dialogue forums such as the Dean’s Hearing, FISIPOL UGM continues to promote a democratic, collaborative, and responsive academic culture that supports the needs and development of its entire academic community.
