Yogyakarta, July 14, 2026—The Department of Management and Public Policy (DMKP) at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (Fisipol UGM), in collaboration with the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM), held a coordination meeting today, Tuesday (July 14), to prepare for the development of a “Grand Design for Integrated Complaint Handling Regarding Alleged Human Rights Violations.” Fisipol UGM is serving as the expert team for the drafting of this grand design document.
Dr. Prabianto Mukti Wibowo, Deputy Chairperson for Internal Affairs and Commissioner for Complaints at Komnas HAM, stated that the nature of public complaints has increasingly shifted toward issues concerning the right to welfare. He highlighted the dynamics of societal life—inextricably linked to the pace of government-led development—which can potentially lead to human rights violations.
“Given the volume of these complaints, the complaint handling system at Komnas HAM must certainly be improved. We have implemented various mechanisms to this end—not only by providing the public with the widest possible access to report their issues but also by conducting analyses that yield substantive advice and recommendations regarding these complaints,” he explained, initiating the discussion.
This initial coordination meeting aims to align the understanding between Komnas HAM and Fisipol UGM regarding the scope, methodology, working mechanisms, and drafting stages of the Grand Design for Integrated Complaint Handling Regarding Alleged Human Rights Violations, as well as to formulate a work plan and define the division of roles and responsibilities between the two parties.
