Yogyakarta, September 18, 2026—The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FISIPOL UGM) hosted an alumni discussion titled “Alumni Contributions Amidst Indonesia’s Political Shifts” on Friday (Sept 18). The event was part of the series of activities commemorating FISIPOL UGM’s 71st anniversary.
Held at the FISIPOL UGM West Atrium, the discussion featured three speakers from diverse professional backgrounds: Hari Edi Tri Wahyu Nugroho, Head of the Communication and Informatics Agency of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY); Muhammad Fikri, a Global Social Media Strategist; and Desiana Samosir, Director of ELSAM.
The theme “Alumni Contributions Amidst Indonesia’s Political Shifts” served as the event’s primary focus. The discussion positioned alumni as members of society capable of contributing through various professional fields amidst the changing political landscape and dynamics in Indonesia. “Let us be alumni who uphold the nation’s dignity and reject democratic regression,” stated Prof. Wahyudi Kumorotomo.
The presence of three speakers with distinct backgrounds provided an opportunity to examine alumni contributions across various sectors. Hari Edi Tri Wahyu Nugroho represented experience within the government sector, specifically in communication and informatics at the regional level.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Fikri brought his experience as a Global Social Media Strategist. This background reflects developments in the private sector, which plays a significant role in Indonesia’s public and political life.
Finally, Desiana Samosir, serving as the Director of ELSAM, contributed insights from the civil society sector, focusing on human rights and democracy.
