Yogyakarta, September 24, 2026—The event titled “Career Preparation Class: All-in-One Cheat Sheet to Your Career Journey!” was successfully held online via Zoom on Thursday (Sept 24). Open to UGM students and the general public free of charge, the event aimed to equip participants with the skills needed to navigate the professional recruitment process.
Featuring Zulfikar Fadhila Rahman, a Human Resources (HR) professional from MySkill, the agenda was divided into two main sessions. The first session focused on presenting fundamental concepts. Participants were guided through designing a career vision, understanding career pathways, and preparing basic job-hunting strategies.
“You can gain direct insights into the HR perspective regarding how candidates are evaluated during the recruitment stages,” stated Puput, the event’s moderator.
In line with this, Zulfikar shared guidelines for creating an ideal Curriculum Vitae (CV) that is compatible with Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS). He explained that a CV must include key components: personal information (name, phone number, email, city of residence, and LinkedIn link), a brief profile, education, experience, skills, and awards.
Additionally, Zulfikar advised candidates to avoid common CV writing errors. These include typos, using an excessive variety of fonts, using unexplained abbreviations, assigning percentage-based skill ratings (which can appear subjective), and using passive voice.
The second session shifted to a more practical activity: a CV review. This opportunity for direct evaluation with an HR practitioner proved invaluable, allowing participants to identify the strengths and weaknesses of their respective CVs. To round out the recruitment process, participants were also equipped with tips on how to prepare for interviews. Zulfikar emphasized that an interview is essentially a two-way process; it is not merely the company evaluating the candidate, but the candidate also has the right to assess their own compatibility with the company and the prospective supervisor (hiring manager). Furthermore, to answer competency-based interview questions, he strongly recommended that participants use the STAR method—outlining the Situation, Task, Action, and Result.
The event concluded with the presentation of e-certificates and an opportunity for participants to receive attractive souvenirs. It is hoped that this activity will assist students in securing suitable employment.
