Fisipol UGM Held a Talk show to Discuss the Programmes of the Presidential and Vice-Presidential Candidates: Support the Contribution of Educational Institutions in Formulating Food and Energy Security Policies.

In accordance to Fisipol UGM’s commitment in delivering political education in the academic field, Fisipol UGM held a talk show to discuss the programs of the presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the second time. This event was centred on issues surrounding food and energy security. This talk show was aimed to provide a better understanding about food and energy policies from both sides.The event, which took place at the Mandiri Auditorium, on the 4th floor of Fisipol UGM, commenced at 9 am and lasted until 12 pm. This event was broadcasted through RRI and the YouTube channel of Fisipol UGM. This event was attended by hundreds of participants, which were consisted of politicians, NGO representatives and students from all over Yogyakarta and the surrounding areas.

The Tim Kampanye Nasional (TKN) of Joko Widodo and Ma’ruf Amin was represented by Johnny Plate and Satya Widya Yudha. Meanwhile, for the Badan Pemenangan Nasional (BPN) of Prabowo Subianto and Sandiaga Uno, Sudirman Said and M. Said Didu attended as representatives. Fisipol UGM has also provided a team of experts, which was consisted of Prof. Ali Agus (Faculty of Animal Science), Dr. Subejo (Faculty of Agriculture), Prof. Eni Harmayani (Faculty of Agricultural Technology), Dr. Deendalianto (Faculty of Engineering) and Dr. Nanang Indra Kurniawan (Faculty of Social and Political Sciences).

Both the panellists and the representatives of the two candidates agreed that academicians should be more involved when it comes to food and energy issues in Indonesia. Policies should not merely taken on a political basis, but through scientific grounds as well. This is necessary in order to achieve a self-sufficient Indonesia.

Two question-and-answer sessions were provided to the participants, in which they were able to ask questions and voice their opinions to the representatives of both candidates. These sessions were open not only for the participants that were present at the venue, but also for those who participated through Fisipol’s Instagram account.

This talk show will be held until its fifth round on April 2019. The results of this talk show will be used as a material to formulate policies in food and energy security. This is one of the contributions of educational institutions or academicians that aims to create food and energy policies that are scientific.
