FISIPOL UGM Receives A Visit from the Head of BPIP RI to Socialize Pancasila Values

Yogyakarta, August 28th 2023─Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of Universitas Gadjah Mada, together with the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (BPIP RI), and Ghifari Foundation, held the Socialization of Pancasila Ideology Development through Pancasila Speech and Charity on Monday (28/8) at the Auditorium of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of UGM. The event was attended by Yudian Wahyudi, Head of BPIP RI, to give the Keynote Speech, as well as Prakoso, Deputy for Inter-Agency Relations, Communication, and Network Socialization of BPIP RI, and Wawan Mas’udi, the Dean of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of UGM. In addition, three speakers were also presented, namely Suratman, Professor from UGM; Sahiron, National Facilitator of Religious Moderation; Kalis Mardiasih, book author and influencer; and moderated by Suzanna Eddyono, Lecturer in the Department of Social Development and Welfare of UGM.

Wawan argued that the socialization of Pancasila values is a national agenda and has become UGM’s national responsibility as an educational institution. The values of Pancasila need to be instilled so that Indonesia with its plural society, long history, and extraordinary potential can bring the values of justice and prosperity. However, efforts to realize a prosperous and just society continue to face challenges that change from time to time. According to Wawan, there are three main challenges currently being faced. These challenges are referred to by Wawan as triple disruption and megashift.

First, related to climate change, we must encourage an equitable energy transition, which allows people to still have access. Do not let Indonesia’s wealth that can support the energy transition be controlled by foreign parties. Second, digital transformation, in which there is a dimension of justice that is still a challenge when faced with a situation of inequality that can result in a lost generation. Third, social inclusion, how our pluralistic society can fit into the system we have without exclusion,” Wawan explained.

Yudian then continued the event by inviting all socialization participants to be able to appreciate the history of the nation’s struggle and not forget to be grateful. Yudian said that the proclamation of Indonesia’s independence was the best and greatest proclamation in history.

“I am proud that Indonesia was able to gain independence in a short time, without military technology. The proclamation succeeded in liberating and reuniting the Indonesian people where at that time there were at least 57 independent countries,” said Yudian.

Yudian’s keynote speech was followed by a socialization event filled by three other speakers. Each speaker explained the implementation of Pancasila values in their respective fields of expertise. Suratman said that one form of implementation and efforts to realize justice is through the Srikandi Sungai Indonesia program initiated by UGM. In addition, Kalis also emphasized that justice in the aspect of gender still needs more encouragement and efforts. “One of the things we are currently fighting for is the prevention of early childhood marriage,” said Kalis.
