The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FISIPOL UGM) welcomed a delegation from the Indo-Pacific Research Centre (IPRC), Murdoch University, Australia, for an international visit and discussion held at the Faculty Senate Meeting Room on Monday, June 15, 2026. The delegation was led by Prof. Ian Wilson, Director of the Indo-Pacific Research Centre, and Prof. Jacqueline Lo, both representing Murdoch University.
The visit marked another important step in FISIPOL UGM’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its global academic network and explore strategic partnerships with the Indo-Pacific Research Centre in the areas of education, research, and academic development. The meeting provided an opportunity for both institutions to exchange ideas and identify collaborative initiatives aimed at enhancing academic capacity and producing research with meaningful societal impact.
The program was organized into two main sessions. The first, a Welcoming Session, brought together the visiting delegation with FISIPOL UGM’s leadership, including Prof. Poppy S. Winanti, Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, and Fina Itriyati, Ph.D., Vice Dean for Research, Community Engagement, Cooperation, and Alumni Affairs. During the session, representatives from both institutions introduced their respective academic profiles, outlined their strategic priorities, and explored potential areas for future collaboration.
The second session featured a Matchmaking Session, designed to connect FISIPOL UGM faculty members and students interested in pursuing doctoral studies with prospective supervisors from Murdoch University. The session enabled participants to discuss research interests, learn about doctoral study opportunities, and explore a range of academic collaboration schemes that could be developed jointly between the two institutions.
The visit is expected to further strengthen institutional ties between FISIPOL UGM and Murdoch University while expanding opportunities for FISIPOL UGM’s academic community to engage in international research networks, collaborative projects, and doctoral education. By fostering stronger global partnerships, the faculty continues to broaden access to international academic opportunities for both its faculty members and students.
This initiative reflects FISIPOL UGM’s commitment to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) by expanding access to high-quality higher education and strengthening academic capacity, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering international collaboration in education and research. Through strategic partnerships with leading global institutions, FISIPOL UGM continues to cultivate an inclusive, innovative, and internationally connected academic ecosystem that prepares its community to address global challenges.
