Yogyakarta, August 26, 2026—Amid the hustle and bustle of college life and academic demands, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) features a green open space that serves as the heart of student life: Sansiro Park. More than just a green space, Sansiro Park has transformed into a hub for student activities—a place for discussions, relaxation, and hosting various informal events.
Located on Bulaksumur Street, the park has a long history. The nickname “San Siro” is said to have originated in the ’80s or ’90s, coined by the students themselves. The name was inspired by the legendary soccer stadium in Milan, Italy, as the park was then primarily a volleyball and soccer field frequently used for sports.
Today, Sansiro Park features a lush green open-space concept. This transformation aligns with FISIPOL UGM’s commitment to creating a green campus and supporting the Sustainable Development Goals. FISIPOL UGM is actively expanding green open spaces within the academic environment, such as converting the parking lot on the west side of Bank Mandiri into a vibrant green space and landscaping the area around Noted Cafe.
Currently, Sansiro Park has become a favorite spot for FISIPOL students. Various student activities are regularly held here, making it a dynamic hub of campus life. Most recently, on August 26–27, 2026, FISIPOL UGM hosted the Sansiro Fair 2025 at Sansiro Park. This annual event serves as a platform for all student organizations and activity units to introduce themselves to incoming freshmen. With interactive booths and a variety of creative activities, the Sansiro Fair is not only a promotional event but also a communal space for welcoming new students.
Students often use the park to engage in discussions or simply relax between classes.
FISIPOL UGM’s efforts to provide and maintain green open spaces like Sansiro Park are tangible evidence of the faculty’s commitment to creating a campus environment that is not only beautiful but also holistically supports student activities. With its green open-space concept, Sansiro Park has become more than just a park; it has evolved into a hub for interaction, collaboration, and creativity for the entire FISIPOL UGM academic community.
