Soprema UGM: Combining Entrepreneurship with Social-Environmental Issues

Yogyakarta, October 21st 2022─UGM Young Sociopreneur again held a seminar on the development of the Era Society 5.0 in the business world. Several prominent speakers were presented to elaborate their thoughts and ideas on today’s sociopreneur innovation. The event which was held on Friday (21/10) was attended by more than 200 participants, both online and offline. The seminar with the theme “Young Sociopreneur Resilience in the Era of Society 5.0” thoroughly discussed the topic of the Penta-Helix collaboration which became a new opportunity in the entrepreneurial sector. This collaboration is a concept of joint collaboration between various parties in the fields of Academics, Business, Community, Government, and Media. This innovation is here to be one of the resolutions in increasing the growth of Indonesian MSMEs. Through this collaboration, young sociopreneurs are expected to be able to realize innovations that are not only based on economic benefits but also social change. The emergence of MSMEs is also a strategic sector to maintain the Indonesian economy in the 2023 Recession.

The Minister of SOEs of the Republic of Indonesia, Erick Thohir, was the keynote speaker in explaining the government’s development plan to develop the Indonesian economy. Not only that, in order to get a real business innovation point of view, Soprema UGM invited three other speakers who are experts in their fields, namely Rezky Wulan as Co-Founder of School of Finance, Muhammad Naufal as CEO of Carbon Addons, and Syaifa Tania as the lecturer of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of UGM.

The rapid growth of start-ups does not make the failure rate low. An important point in building a business is prioritizing the value proposition or the value offered to consumers. “In this value proposition, we will see what consumers actually need, what consumers will get, and the value of the products or services we provide is what makes the difference,” said Tania. She added that the selling value can be started by highlighting the uniqueness of the product that is owned by other products.

This Soprema seminar also discussed environmental issues as part of sociopreneur. One of the environmental issues that are often discussed is the reduction of carbon emissions. Modern business innovation is encouraged to be able to produce innovations that have economic value, while still paying attention to environmental aspects. Muhammad Naufal, said that Carbon Addons made carbon emission reduction the main target of their business. “From the outside, it looks like we are a technology and environmental-based company, but actually in our project, there are social aspects that we do. We empower communities around the carbon project,” said Naufal.
