SOREC Fisipol UGM Collaborates with Various Sectors to Encourage Mental Revolution

Yogyakarta, March 31st 2023 – The Social Research Center (SOREC) of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of Universitas Gadjah Mada, collaborated with the Indonesian Internet Domain Name Manager (Pengelola Nama Domain Indonesia /PANDI) in holding a CyberTalk event entitled “Mutual Cooperation in Science for Mental Revolution in the Cyber Era”. The event which was held on Friday (31/3) at the Auditorium Mandiri of FISIPOL UGM also collaborated with the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK) and Symbolic.id.

The CyberTalk event is one of the efforts to achieve the Golden Indonesia Vision of 2045, especially in the aspects of Human Development and Mastery of Science and Technology. “CyberTalk is a form of mutual cooperation in which universities, the government and the technical community work together in order to improve Indonesia regarding the mental revolution, especially in the cyber era,” said Yudho Giri Sucahyo, chairman of PANDI, when giving a speech.

Wawan Mas’udi, the Dean of Fisipol UGM, welcomed the collaboration between SOREC and PANDI. He said that collaboration between sectors is the key to supporting the mental revolution movement. Deputy V of the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture, Didik Suhardi, also agreed with Wawan’s words when delivering the Keynote Speech from Muhadjir Effendy, Coordinating Minister of the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture. “The mental revolution is a movement that cannot only be carried out by the government but by all parties,” said Didik.

The role of tertiary institutions as educational institutions in an effort to encourage mental revolution is related to character education. According to Ova Emilia, the Rector of UGM, it is important to continue to provide humane touches in the midst of increasingly sophisticated technological developments. “Mental is our basic capital in dealing with technological changes. If we are able to adapt well and maintain humanity, of course, we will not be dragged into abusing technology,” said Ova.

The government also plays a role in this effort. One of them was by the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture, initiating a program entitled “Courtesy and Orderly Care Movement on Social Media” as an effort to make social media a positive space. This program is also crucial considering that a few years ago there were findings that Indonesian netizens were considered one of the most impolite netizens. This was conveyed by Katiman, Assistant Deputy V of the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture.

CyberTalk was also attended by various speakers, namely Noe Letto, Director of Symbolic.id, and Falikhul Ishbah, the Lecturer and Researcher of SOREC, and moderated by Ade Siti Barokah from The Asia Foundation.
