PIONIR Society 2025 Officially Opens: Igniting the Spirit of “Gerak Bara Arunika” at FISIPOL UGM

Yogyakarta, 6 August 2025 — A total of 627 new students from across Indonesia officially joined the opening of PIONIR Society 2025, held at the West Hall of FISIPOL UGM. This year, PIONIR Society carries the theme “Gerak Bara Arunika”, symbolizing the spirit of being not only a light for oneself but also a source of tangible benefits for society and the surrounding environment.

The opening ceremony was marked by the symbolic distribution of tumblers to six student representatives from each department, underscoring the faculty’s commitment to the Green Society movement. The program continued with the ceremonial lighting of the “Dawn of the Journey”, representing the first steps of the new students (Gamada) in their academic and personal development journey at FISIPOL UGM. read more

Students & Online Loans: FISIPOL UGM Lecturers Reveal the Other Side of Educational Fintech Platforms

FISIPOL UGM lecturers Ratna Noviani, Heru Nugroho, and Elok Santi Jesica have published their latest research article titled “Grab It Fast! Entrepreneurial Self and Hyper-Consumerism in the Students’ Prosumption of Online Lending Services in Indonesia” in the July–September 2025 edition of the international journal SAGE Open.

The article examines the practice of prosumption — the simultaneous production and consumption of services — in online lending among Indonesian university students, with a specific focus on the Cicil platform. Within the framework of the sharing economy and prosumerism, this platform not only offers educational loans but also encourages students to act as both “digital workers” and active consumers. read more

Ceremony of FISIPOL UGM and Pertamina Foundation Closed the Pitu Ngawi Village Community Empowerment Program

Yogyakarta, May 23th 2025─The Socio-Economic Empowerment Program for Village Communities Around Special Purpose Forest Areas (KHDTK) through a circular economy approach was officially closed in a ceremony at Pitu Village Hall, Getas District, Ngawi Regency, on Friday (23/5). The program, which ran from January to May 2025, is the result of collaboration between Pertamina Foundation, FISIPOL UGM, and Universitas Gadjah Mada.

During the five months of implementation, this program has provided skills training, local business assistance, household waste management into value-added products, and the formation of community business groups based on local potential and sustainability principles. read more

Increase Environmental Awareness, GAMAPI FISIPOL UGM Holds Environmental Action (Aksi Lingkungan/ Angklung) at Pandansari Beach

Yogyakarta, 18 May 2025–GAMAPI FISIPOL UGM held an Environmental Action (Aksi Lingkungan/ Angklung) work program at Pandansari Beach, Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta. This activity was designed by the Social Society division (Sosmas) of GAMAPI as a means of realizing positive contributions and responsibilities towards the environment. 

“As students, we want to invite and provide a forum for other students and non-students to have a real impact on the environment as an effort to care for and increase awareness of our shared environment,” said Farrel.  read more

Inviting Students to Raise the Issue of Green Economy, the 2025 Ajisaka Festival Organizes Roadshow to Several Universities in Indonesia

Yogyakarta, 3rd of March 2025 ─The Ajisaka Festival, the yearly event organized by students, comes back to show its commitment towards advocating issues of sustainability. Ahead of the organization of the festival, the organizers rolled out roadshows to several universities in Indonesia. These roadshows aim to invite students from various parts of Indonesia to participate in finding solutions towards the current development scheme which is regarded as unsustainable.

“Through the roadshow, we want to “kulanuwun”, greeting friends from various university in Indonesia and introducing the Ajisaka Festival as a collaborative space for creative folks in expressing their care and concern towards the issue that we have raised,” Adelia Christi mentioned in the interview, as the Leader of Ajisaka Festival .

The Ajisaka Roadshow started on the 20th of February at Universitas Teknologi Yogyakarta and UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. The roadshow program is planned to be organized frequently until the 24th of March. The roadshow agenda is done offline in campuses at Yogyakarta and Solo, while it will be done online at the other campuses. The roadshow consists of information sharing in regards to the competition categories, janamejaya video screening, and icebreaking activities. read more

This year, the Festival Ajisaka raises the issue of green economy with the title “Gaman Kamulyan: Echoing the Hope of Sustainability”. This theme was chosen as a form of concern for the importance of environmentally sound economic development, especially in the midst of an increasingly worrying environmental crisis. read more
