Yogyakarta, June 7th 2021 Two students from Gadjah Mada University (UGM) got an achievement in the UNY National Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur’an (MTQ) 2021 Competition. Prima Miftahul Jannati (PSdK 2020) held first place in the Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran championship. The team that consisted of Muftikhatul Muna (Sociology 2018), Dina Arifka (Psychology 2018), and Salsabilia Amiyard Siwi (MKP 2019) also got first place in the Musabaqah Syarhil Quran competition.

MTQ UNY 2021 is a national Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran championship that is a part of the 57th Dies Natalis UNY event. Prima said that since she was a kid, she often joins various competitions. This year she has won first place in three MTQ championships. She said that she joined the championships not just for the awards but also as a way to show her devotion to Allah.

“Since I was a kid I’ve been trained to read the Al-Qur’an by my teachers and parents, so in joining these competitions, not only can I get an award, I can also pray,” said Prima Miftahul Jannati.

“We can gain a reward from Allah if we read the letters and more if we read it with a beautiful voice because the MTQ championship asks us to do exactly that,” she added.

Prima said that we should turn our hobby to an achievement that can make us happy and benefit us in the future. The hope is that through these activities we can sharpen our personal skills.

There is also Muftikhatul Muna who has been participating in championships since her time in middle school. At first, she liked reading the Al-Qur’an through art and songs, then that joy brought her to provincial and national championships. Her talent also enables her to visit several places in Indonesia without spending a penny and allows her to gain new friends. Additionally, by participating in the championships she can increase her Al-Qur’an reading skill through art. According to her, something that pushes her to always achieve is the thought that she will be known by many people for her achievements.

“I feel like achievements can make me feel accepted by people,” Muftikhatul Muna said.

Muna said that her achievement is a fruit of many years of labor and struggle. She believes that nothing comes in an instant and there is no luck without an effort.

Although every event and championship is held online, Muna said that she still met her team in order to make the Musabaqah Syarhil Quran video.
