Yogyakarta, 14th of June 2026—the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Gadjah Mada University (FISIPOL UGM) hosted an event aimed at facilitating interaction, discussion, advocacy, and the updating of ideas among social and political scientists in Indonesia through the Journal of Social and Political Sciences (JSP). This scientific journal has been published regularly since July 1997, serving as a platform for researchers and practitioners to share their insights and findings. The JSP is published three times a year, in March, July, and November, and features articles that undergo a rigorous peer review process. This ensures that the content is not only original but also of high academic quality. The journal has become a vital resource for scholars, policymakers, and students interested in contemporary social and political issues.
Since 2017, all articles published in JSP have been in English, broadening its accessibility to an international audience. This move aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly the goal of ensuring equal access to quality education and promoting basic literacy. By publishing in English, JSP aims to reach a wider readership, facilitating knowledge exchange and collaboration across borders.
The journal covers a diverse range of contemporary topics in the social and political fields, including gender politics and identity, digital society and disruption, civil society movements, community welfare, social development, public policy innovation, international politics and security, as well as radicalism and terrorism. These topics are crucial for understanding the complexities of today’s world and for fostering informed discussions among scholars and practitioners.
The primary objective of publishing JSP is to disseminate original and up-to-date articles from researchers and practitioners while facilitating interaction, discussion, and the updating of ideas among social and political scientists, both in Indonesia and abroad. This aligns with the SDG’s emphasis on access to education, as it provides a platform for learning and sharing knowledge.
In addition to its academic contributions, JSP also plays a significant role in advocating for social change and policy innovation. By providing a space for critical analysis and discussion, the journal encourages scholars to engage with pressing social issues and contribute to the development of effective solutions. This is particularly important in a rapidly changing world where new challenges continuously emerge.
In conclusion, the JSP at FISIPOL UGM stands as a testament to the power of academic dialogue in shaping social and political thought. Through its commitment to quality research and inclusive access to education, the journal plays a crucial role in advancing knowledge and fostering meaningful discussions that can lead to positive social change.
