Australia-Indonesia in Conversation (AIC) 2023: Valuing Democracy and Diversity: Equity, Leadership and Social Justice.

We would like to invite you to attend the Australia-Indonesia in Conversation (AIC) 2023 Conference, themed, “Valuing Democracy and Diversity: Equity, Leadership and Social Justice.”

The conference is organized by The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) in collaboration with The Faculty of Arts at The University of Melbourne (UoM) and will be held on 5-6 July 2023, in hybrid mode; in person at the University of Gadjah Mada (UGM) campus in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, and online.

This conference aims to highlight the ways policymakers, researchers, civil society and the private sector in Australia and Indonesia seek to value democracy and diversity, amidst ever-changing global and local political and socio-economic dynamics. The conference will begin with an opening session with high-level officials from Indonesia and Australia, discussing the value of democracy and diversity. Six sequential panels then will be held over two days, discussing leadership and democratic value to address inequality; the role of youth in driving change; the incorporation of human rights into business; the improvement of gender equity; sociocultural activism for change; and policies to promote equity, social justice, and rights recognition.

This conference is free and open for public.
