In the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 that we are facing now, innovation is an important key to overcoming social problems. Changes that occur dynamically and disrupt various important elements of people’s lives give rise to the growth of new phenomena such as Social Entrepreneurship. Creative Hub Fisipol. UGM as an incubator of social entrepreneurship always tries to give birth to new talents of Social Entrepreneurs who will create solutions for many problems in society.

Therefore, on Thursday, February 21, 2019, the FISIPOL Sharing Session was held at the Digilib Cafe Fisipol UGM at 3:30 p.m. On this occasion there were two alumni startup Creative Hub Fisipol batch 1, Ailesh Power and Gifood, and moderator Muhammad Rilo Nugroho, a startup innovator who created the Lomba Mahasiswa startup, which is an information and funding platform for student competitions.

At this event Rilo as a representative of the Talent Creative Hub Fisipol Batch 2 stated that “startups become innovations that play a role in encouraging the progress of the nation, especially through creative ideas and solutions that answer the needs of the community”. Creative Hub as a forum for creative ideas of social entrepreneurship innovators becomes the right tool for Lomba Mahasiswa and other social startups to develop and bring a positive impact on the surrounding environment, and play a role in answering the challenges of the era in the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era. read more

In accordance to Fisipol UGM’s commitment in delivering political education in the academic field, Fisipol UGM held a talk show to discuss the programs of the presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the second time. This event was centred on issues surrounding food and energy security. This talk show was aimed to provide a better understanding about food and energy policies from both sides.The event, which took place at the Mandiri Auditorium, on the 4th floor of Fisipol UGM, commenced at 9 am and lasted until 12 pm. This event was broadcasted through RRI and the YouTube channel of Fisipol UGM. This event was attended by hundreds of participants, which were consisted of politicians, NGO representatives and students from all over Yogyakarta and the surrounding areas.

The Tim Kampanye Nasional (TKN) of Joko Widodo and Ma’ruf Amin was represented by Johnny Plate and Satya Widya Yudha. Meanwhile, for the Badan Pemenangan Nasional (BPN) of Prabowo Subianto and Sandiaga Uno, Sudirman Said and M. Said Didu attended as representatives. “Nuclear can be used for various purposes. Yet, its use as a weapon is an issue of its own,” as stated by Kusnanto Anggoro, lecturer from Universitas Indonesia and Universitas Pertahanan.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, along with Fisipol UGM, held a seminar regarding the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. Five competent speakers were present at the seminar on Friday (08/02) in the Auditorium of Fisipol UGM.

The treaty, which was launched on September 2017, is an international legal framework that comprehensively administers regarding the ban of the use, development, production, transfer and acquisition of nuclear weapons. At the moment, 122 states have approved, 1 state have refused and 1 state abstained on this treaty. Most states that have approved this treaty are states that do not possess nuclear weapons. read more

Even though Indonesia will serve for only two years, Indonesia still can act as an agenda setter in various issues,” as stated by Dr. Dafri Agussalim, lecturer at the Department of International Relations UGM in “Indonesia’s Strategy in Diplomacy as a Non-Permanent Member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in the 2019-2020 Period.” This event was held by the Institute of International Studies (IIS) Fisipol UGM and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia on Monday (7/2).

Since December 2018, Indonesia is officially a non-permanent member of the UNSC. This is Indonesia’s fourth term as a non-permanent member of the UNSC, after the 1973-1974, 1995-1996 and 2007-2008 periods. Other states that serve alongside Indonesia today are Belgium and Germany (Western Europe), Dominican Republic (Latin America and the Caribbean) and South Africa (Africa).

In this event, Dr. Riza Noer Arfani, as the Director of IIS, congratulated the ministry for Indonesia’s membership as a non-permanent member of the UNSC. He also stated the need for public support to Indonesian diplomats. read more

Yogyakarta, 30 January 2019 – Welcoming the political year of 2019, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Fisipol) UGM, in cooperation with Jaringan Demokrasi Indonesia (JaDI) held a talk show on Tuesday (30/1). The event took place in the Mandiri Library Auditorium, on the 4th floor of the Fisipol UGM building. This talk show was attended by the representatives of the campaign teams of both candidates of the 2019 Presidential Election, the Tim Kampanye Nasional (TKN) of Joko Widodo and Ma’ruf Amin and the Badan Pemenangan Nasional (BPN) of Prabowo Subianto and Sandiaga Uno, with two representatives from each side. “Many unsubstantial activities the social media have occurred due to the upcoming 2019 elections. Fisipol wishes to provide an alternative platform for a substantial and open discussion to discuss the programs and issues concerning Indonesia’s future in a more elaborate manner. Thus, to provide a substantive discussion, we conduct it in the academic field,” as stated by Dr. Erwan Agus Purwanto, M. Si, the Dean of Fisipol UGM in his opening speech.Arsul Sani and Trimedya Panjaitan represented the TKN, while the BPN was represented by Bambang Widjajanto and Surya Imam. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Institute of International Studies Universitas Gadjah Mada (IIS UGM) and the Association of International Relations Science of Indonesia (AIHII) held a convention entitled ‘Reviewing 70 years of Indonesia’s Free and Active Politics’ on Wednesday (5/9). The convention, which was held in the Senate Hall of UGM Rectorate was intended to commemorate the 70 years of Indonesia’s free and active politics. On the 2nd of September, 70 years ago, Indonesia’s Vice President, Drs. Moh. Hatta in a meeting session of the Central Indonesian National Committee formulated the framework of Indonesia’s foreign politics, which is known as “Free and Active Politics”. In this framework, Indonesia does not only accentuate neutrality, but also aims to strengthen and uphold world peace.

At this convention, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. A.M. Fachir attended as a keynote speaker. In his session, Vice FM A.M. Fachir explained several essential points of Bung Hatta’s speech. “First, should we choose between the two blocs? Second, as a nation, we should not be an object in the international battle. Last, we must be a subject that is rightful to determine our own positions and purposes,’ as stated by Vice FM A.M. Fachir. He also stated that Indonesia is consistent with the free and active politics policy and continues to contribute. Yogyakarta, 27th of August 2018-In recent years, social programs that are aimed to solve public issues are facing a significant change. Not only it is improving quantitatively, but also the actors that are participating in empowerment programs are also improving. Previously centred on charity, current social programs are shifting towards capacity building and empowerment.
