CfDS Fisipol UGM Explains Its Achievements and Publications to Minister Rudiantara: UGM Should Propel Technology Development

The Minister of Communication and Information Technology of Indonesia, Rudiantara, visited the office of CfDS (Center for Digital Society) Fisipol UGM. On this visit, Diah Angendari, the Executive Secretary of CfDS, explained the publications and programs of CfDS throughout the past four years, which include 43 case studies. Afterwards, Rudiantara also visited the Digital Intelligence (DI) Lab that was recently inaugurated on November 2018. This lab will be used to identify various issues in society and to comprehend them through artificial intelligence technology to analyse conventional and online data activities. The newest program from DI Lab is Digilog, which consists of vlogs produced by CfDS. The first episode discusses regarding Nurhadi-Aldo and abstentions in elections.

Furthermore, CfDS once more was nominated for the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) Prize 2019, an annual award held by the International Telecommunication Union, an organization affiliated to the United Nations.

For the WSIS Prize 2019, CfDS was nominated for Multi Approach Digital Literacy Program and Digital Intelligence Lab. In 2018, CfDS received one nomination.

CfDS itself has established a cooperation with the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology of Indonesia and SiBerkreasi through the launch of digital literacy series, Netizen Fair and #FIRAL (Digital Literacy Festival). read more

Fisipol UGM Held a Talk show to Discuss the Programmes of the Presidential and Vice-Presidential Candidates: Support the Contribution of Educational Institutions in Formulating Food and Energy Security Policies.

In accordance to Fisipol UGM’s commitment in delivering political education in the academic field, Fisipol UGM held a talk show to discuss the programs of the presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the second time. This event was centred on issues surrounding food and energy security. This talk show was aimed to provide a better understanding about food and energy policies from both sides.The event, which took place at the Mandiri Auditorium, on the 4th floor of Fisipol UGM, commenced at 9 am and lasted until 12 pm. This event was broadcasted through RRI and the YouTube channel of Fisipol UGM. This event was attended by hundreds of participants, which were consisted of politicians, NGO representatives and students from all over Yogyakarta and the surrounding areas.

The Tim Kampanye Nasional (TKN) of Joko Widodo and Ma’ruf Amin was represented by Johnny Plate and Satya Widya Yudha. Meanwhile, for the Badan Pemenangan Nasional (BPN) of Prabowo Subianto and Sandiaga Uno, Sudirman Said and M. Said Didu attended as representatives. Fisipol UGM has also provided a team of experts, which was consisted of Prof. Ali Agus (Faculty of Animal Science), Dr. Subejo (Faculty of Agriculture), Prof. Eni Harmayani (Faculty of Agricultural Technology), Dr. Deendalianto (Faculty of Engineering) and Dr. Nanang Indra Kurniawan (Faculty of Social and Political Sciences). read more

Fisipol UGM Has Organized a Successful Talk Show That Discussed the Programs of The 2019 Presidential and Vice Presidential Candidates

Yogyakarta, 30 January 2019 – Welcoming the political year of 2019, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Fisipol) UGM, in cooperation with Jaringan Demokrasi Indonesia (JaDI) held a talk show on Tuesday (30/1). The event took place in the Mandiri Library Auditorium, on the 4th floor of the Fisipol UGM building. This talk show was attended by the representatives of the campaign teams of both candidates of the 2019 Presidential Election, the Tim Kampanye Nasional (TKN) of Joko Widodo and Ma’ruf Amin and the Badan Pemenangan Nasional (BPN) of Prabowo Subianto and Sandiaga Uno, with two representatives from each side. “Many unsubstantial activities the social media have occurred due to the upcoming 2019 elections. Fisipol wishes to provide an alternative platform for a substantial and open discussion to discuss the programs and issues concerning Indonesia’s future in a more elaborate manner. Thus, to provide a substantive discussion, we conduct it in the academic field,” as stated by Dr. Erwan Agus Purwanto, M. Si, the Dean of Fisipol UGM in his opening speech.Arsul Sani and Trimedya Panjaitan represented the TKN, while the BPN was represented by Bambang Widjajanto and Surya Imam. This talk show was also attended by three panellists with various backgrounds. Professor Agus Pramusinto, Muh. Najib and Hifdzil Alim, from JaDI, were the panellists on this talk show. Maintaining The Spirit of Togetherness of Christmas at Fisipol UGM

Yogyakarta, 10 January 2019 – The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Fisipol) UGM celebrated Christmas and New Year’s Eve on Monday (10/1) at the West Hall of Fisipol UGM. This event was themed “The Wisdom of Jesus Christ For Us,” and was attended by the faculty members of Fisipol UGM.

This event was started with the lighting of candles, led by the Dean of Fisipol UGM, Dr.Erwan Agus Purwanto,M.Si, and was proceeded by an opening speech by the Head of the Committee. “With the spirit of Christmas, our unity must always be preserved,” as stated by Silverius Djuni Prihatin as the head of this year’s Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebration committee. read more

Research Dissemination: The Development of Islamic Heritage Tourism in Yogyakarta

Yogyakarta, 6 December 2018—ASEAN Studies Center (ASC) of Fisipol UGM held a research dissemination session entitled “From Indonesia To ASEAN: Lesson Learned From The Field” on Thursday (6/12/2018). Located in the Eastern Seminar Room of Fisipol UGM, this session was moderated by Harits Dwi Wiratma, an International Relations lecturer from Universitas Respati Yogyakarta. One of the researches that was presented was entitled ‘The Initiation of The Development of Islamic Heritage Tourism in The Special Region of Yogyakarta’ by Dra. Siti Daulah Khoiriati. This presentation was started with a video, one of the final outputs of this research. read more

Seeing The Harmony of The SDGs With The Localization of Development in Indonesia

Yogyakarta, 6 December 2018–ASEAN Studies Center (ASC) of Fisipol UGM held a research dissemination session entitled “From Indonesia To ASEAN: Lesson Learned From The Field” on Thursday (6/12) in the Eastern Seminar Room of Fisipol UGM.

Besides research presentation, this dissemination session at the end of 2018 also held a book presentation session entitled “Localizing SDGs: Assessing Indonesia’ s Compliance toward Global Goals.”

This presentation session was presented by Karina Larasati Bhumiriyanto, a researcher at ASC and also the co-author of Localizing SDGs: Assessing Indonesia’ s Compliance toward Global Goals. This book was written by Dafri Agussalim and partners, a lecturer at the Department of International Relations. This session was moderated by Harits Dwi Wiratma, an International Relations lecturer from Univeristas Respati Yogyakarta. read more

An Innovative Startup Company Was Founded by Three FISIPOL UGM Students to Develop The Spirit of Competitiveness

Students as agents of social change should have a competitive spirit and manifest it through academic or non-academic means. However, having a competitive spirit is not enough, as students should also be sensitive to their surroundings and able to identify social problems comprehensively. Founding a startup company that focuses on solving social problems shows an improvement in the mindset of the students.

‘Lomba Mahasiswa’ is a startup company founded by three students from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM); Muhammad Rilo Nugroho, Adhika Trisliantama and Fathin Difa Robbani. This startup company was founded to synergize the two aspects mentioned earlier. Lomba Mahasiswa held the Srawung Mahasiswa #1 (Student Gathering #1) Talkshow in the Digilib Cafe of Fisipol UGM on the 30th of November, from 3.30 p.m. until 5.30 p.m.. This talk show invited three speakers, in which all were individuals that are active in the field of startup companies. The guest speakers were Marizal Fanani from the Faculty of Agricultural Technology of UGM Batch 2015, Kintansari Adhyna Putri from the Department of Public Policy and Management of FISIPOL UGM Batch 2017 and Muhammad Rilo Nugroho from the Department of Politics and Government of FISIPOL UGM Batch 2017. read more

Tens of Research Projects Were Presented in Fisipol Research Days 2018

Yogyakarta, 26 November 2018— The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Fisipol) UGM held a research grant event once more.

This event was held from the 26th of November until the 28th of November 2018. At this year’s event, there were at least 63 research projects that were presented, which were conducted by both lecturers and students. This event was held in the Eastern Seminar Room on the second session on Monday (26/11). There were four research projects that were presented in front of Fisipol students. read more

Haris Izmee: Technology Has and Will Always Exists, It Is Up to Us on How to Utilize It

Yogyakarta, 6 November 2018-CfDS UGM invited Haris Izmee, the President of Microsoft Indonesia, to the CfDS CEOTalk event that discussed issues surrounding Microsoft and cybersecurity (6/11).

“Every year, Microsoft spends billions of dollars to conduct research in the sphere of cybersecurity,” Haris stated. Besides research, another effort that Microsoft took to protect its customers is by investing in large sums, in which 5 of them are located in Asia.

Indonesia itself is a country with the third highest risk of malware attacks. Therefore, the issue of cybersecurity is an issue that deserves special attention. read more

On the 63rd Dies Natalis, Fisipol UGM Held a Humanitarian Fundraising Event for The Victims of Palu-Donggala Earthquake

FisipRun, which is routinely held every Friday, had a different atmosphere. As a part of the 63rd Dies Natalis of Fisipol, this edition of FisipRun was held as a charity run entitled  ”FisipRun Dies Natalis: Solidarity for Humanity Palu-Donggala”, which was aimed to help earthquake victims in Palu and Donggala. The series of natural disasters that has struck Indonesia recently, from Lombok to Palu and Donggala triggered Fisipol UGM to held such charity run on Friday (12/10) in the front yard of the BB Building Fisipol UGM from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m.. The event, which was held under a cooperation with Disaster Response Unit (DERU) and the Sport Forum of Fisipol (FOF), was attended by approximately 200 participants. In this charity run, the total distance was 4 kilometres. read more
