Yogyakarta, 6 December 2018–ASEAN Studies Center (ASC) of Fisipol UGM held a research dissemination session entitled “From Indonesia To ASEAN: Lesson Learned From The Field” on Thursday (6/12) in the Eastern Seminar Room of Fisipol UGM.

Besides research presentation, this dissemination session at the end of 2018 also held a book presentation session entitled “Localizing SDGs: Assessing Indonesia’ s Compliance toward Global Goals.”

This presentation session was presented by Karina Larasati Bhumiriyanto, a researcher at ASC and also the co-author of Localizing SDGs: Assessing Indonesia’ s Compliance toward Global Goals. This book was written by Dafri Agussalim and partners, a lecturer at the Department of International Relations. This session was moderated by Harits Dwi Wiratma, an International Relations lecturer from Univeristas Respati Yogyakarta.

Indonesia is one of the ASEAN countries that commits to realize the SDGs. This can be seen through the cooperation within the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) through the synchronization in the Intermediate Development Plan (RPJM).

This synchronization is reflected from the achievement of the 108 points out of the 169 targeted points in regard to the SDGs. Through the 2005-2025 Long Term Development Plan (RPJP), the SDGs have also been achieved.

“In the last 10 years, Indonesia has massively decreased poverty. However, in the implementation of the SDGs, UNDP tends to force countries to report the results according to global standards, even though each country has different characteristics of the SDGs implementation,” as Karin stated.

In conclusion, Indonesia has a strong commitment that has been implemented. However, the SDGs are not yet the in the center of development in Indonesia. This was caused by the differences in the National Intermediate Development Plan (RPJMN). This caused inefficiencies during the implementation of the SDGs.

This book presentation session was also held in accordance to the launching of this book in Brussels, Belgium by Dafri Agussalim, the main author. This book will also be officially released in Indonesia.
