Overview

As part of our ongoing efforts to foster global academic collaboration, FISIPOL UGM is pleased to announce the upcoming visit of Professor Ihsan Yilmaz from Deakin University under our Visiting Professor Program. Prof. Yilmaz is an internationally recognized scholar whose research explores the intersections of authoritarian populism, diasporic politics, and religious nationalism.

His visit will provide an excellent opportunity to strengthen academic ties and expand research collaboration between Deakin University and FISIPOL.

Scope of Collaboration

Prof. Yilmaz’s engagement will focus on:

  • Joint Research Projects: Developing collaborative research initiatives aligned with CfDS and FISIPOL priorities.
  • Mentorship for Early Career Researchers: Providing guidance and scholarly mentorship to emerging researchers and PhD candidates.
  • Grant and Network Engagement: Leveraging Deakin University’s extensive grant networks to support international funding applications and research partnerships.
  • Workshops and Guest Lectures: Hosting academic workshops, seminars, and public lectures to initiate and deepen collaborative discussions on key themes such as populism and digital politics.

Past Collaboration

Prof. Yilmaz previously contributed as a speaker at the CfDS conference “Populism, Digital Technologies and the 2024 Elections in Indonesia,” where he shared insights on the dynamics of populist movements in the digital era.

Future Plans

Prof. Yilmaz is planning to visit FISIPOL in early 2026. Prior to his visit, he is interested in engaging with various FISIPOL units and departments to explore opportunities for research collaboration, teaching contributions, and network development.
