Alumni and Practitioners Lecture of DPP FISIPOL UGM Discussed Network Building Strategies Through Effective Communication Techniques

Yogyakarta, March 17th 2023─The Department of Politics and Government (DPP) of UGM held an Alumni and Practitioners Lecture on Friday (17/3) at the East Seminar Building of Fisipol UGM. This lecture was carried out by combining two courses of the undergraduate program of DPP, namely Political Communication Strategy and Network Management.

On this occasion, DPP Fisipol UGM presented one of the DPP alumni, Diah Ayu Permatasari, former Executive Vice President (EVP) for Communication and CSR at PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara or PLN (Persero). read more

IIS UGM and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Held a Forum to Discuss Health Diplomacy

Yogyakarta, March 16th 2023─Institute of International Studies (IIS) of the Department of International Relations of UGM together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemlu RI) held an Independent Policy Review Socialization entitled “Indonesian Health Diplomacy in America and Europe: United States, Netherlands, Germany, and Switzerland”. The event was held offline on Thursday (16/3) at the Auditorium Mandiri of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of UGM. This event presented Spica Tutuhatunewa, Head of the Center for SKK America and Europe of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia to present the results of the policy review; Lukman-nul Hakim, Director of IIS UGM; Muhadi Sugiono, Lecturer and Senior Researcher at HI UGM; Yodi Mahendradhata, Dean of FKKMK; and Rahman Roestan, Director of Operations of Bio Farma; and moderated by Zakaria Al Anshori, Associate Diplomat of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. read more

Ajisaka 2023 Festival: Women Sexuality Objectification in the Media Still Often Happens

Yogyakarta, March 11th 2023─The yearly competition, Ajisaka Festival, is held again by Fisipol UGM’s Department of Communication Studies on 10th-11th March 2023. This year, the Ajisaka Festival raised the theme of online gender-based violence (OGBV) under the title “Agnia Abhipraya” which means the light of hope. The events included in the festival are competitions, roadshows, and talk shows which have been held since 2022. 

 OGBV as the central theme was not a random choice. It should be noted that the ever-changing dynamic of the digital society has created a new disruption. The definition of violence and sexual assault before the digital era refers to a real action. However, now the form of violence has changed. Through the Ajisaka Festival talk show titled “Women’s Objectification in Media Framing: Does Online Safe Places for Women Still Exist?”, the topic of media-based sexual assault was discussed, specifically, those that happen to women.  read more

The Deans of Social Sciences throughout Indonesia Discuss the National Agenda for the 2024 Election

Yogyakarta, March 10th 2023─The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) UGM hosted the national meeting and working meeting of the Forum of Deans of Social Sciences of Indonesian State Universities (FORDEKIIS) which took place on 9-11 March 2023. This meeting was attended by 112 delegates from 51 faculties of social science in Indonesia. The issue of nationality is one of the important agenda items that is thoroughly discussed for the sake of substantive general elections in 2024. As a forum that brings together academics in the social sciences, FORDEKIIS wants to help ensure that the implementation of the 2024 elections will run with full integrity and focus on the programmatic side of the existing candidates. read more

The main event on the second day was The FORDEKIIS Strategic Agenda discussion on the topic of Independent Accreditation Institutions was held at the 4th Floor Auditorium of Fisipol UGM. The activity was led by three speakers, namely Dr. Khairul Muluk from the Faculty of Administrative Sciences of Universitas Brawijaya, Prof. Israwan from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of Jenderal Soedirman University, and Prof. Agus Pramusinto as Chairman of the State Apparatus Commission. read more

United Nation Talk Show with FISIPOL UGM in Welcoming International Women’s Day 2023

Yogyakarta, March 7th 2023─Welcoming International Women’s Day 2023, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM together with United Nation Indonesia held a talk show titled “International Women’s Day 2023 DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality” on Tuesday (7/3). Valerie Julliand as the UN Resident Coordinator in Indonesia was also present to provide views on the issue of gender equality in the digital era.

“We live in an all-digital era. There are various conveniences and speeds of information there. Without realizing it, digitalization itself creates non-inclusive conditions for several groups, one of which is internet accessibility between men and women in the world. In 2022, we find that only 32% of women have internet access, where 68% of men already have it,” said Valerie. She explained how the journey to building gender equality is still very long, even though this effort has been running for more than 300 years. read more

Fisipol UGM and Future Skills Held the First Ever AI-Based Talk Show in Indonesia

Yogyakarta, March 4th 2023─In collaboration with Yayasan Pijar Masa Depan, the Faculty of Social and Political Science Universitas Gadjah Mada (FISIPOL UGM) held an innovative panel discussion titled “The Future of Work and the Skills Needed for Indonesia’s Growth” on Saturday (4/3) online. The panel discussion is a part of the University Future Skills Batch 7 line of events, which officiate the arrival of a new batch of University Future Skill learners.

With Dr. Eng. Adhiloka Wijaya Messakh, S.T., M. Eng. as a technology expert, Ambarawati as an expert in agriculture, Yunus Abin Koto M.Sc., Ph.D., as an expert in education, and Obed Kresna Widyapratistha from Fisipol UGM as the moderator, this panel discussion is pretty unique. This is because all of the panelists are robots operated by AI (artificial intelligence), while the moderator is a real person. read more

FISIPOL UGM Opens Collaborative Classes with the University of Melbourne

Yogyakarta, March 3rd 2023─The collaborative class between the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (UGM) and the University of Melbourne’s Asia Institute was officially opened in a hybrid manner on Friday (3/3). The class entitled “Analysing Indonesia: Concepts and Issues” was attended by more than 30 students and will last for the next semester. Dr. Abdil Mughis Mudhoffir, an academic from the University of Melbourne who is also the coordinator of this course, said that this collaboration was designed with the aim that students from both universities are able to expand their academic networks, especially to exchange ideas. Mudhofir himself is not a foreign name in Indonesian studies. His book entitled “State of Disorder: Privatized Violence and the State in Indonesia” was nominated for the 2022 EUROSEAS Social Science Book Prize. read more
