Yogyakarta, 29 August 2024–The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Fisipol) UGM criticized the awarding of the title of professor or professor as violating academic norms. This criticism was conveyed in a discussion at the Social Research Center, Department of Sociology UGM, titled “Fake Credentials of the Professor” on Thursday (29/8). In the discussion, academics expressed concerns about losing functional academic identity.

Lecturer at the Department of Mechanical Engineering UGM, Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Deendarlianto, S.T., M.Eng. explains how professorships should be implemented. “Professor is the highest academic position and has high ethical standards. However, all lecturers still have the opportunity to become professors,” he said. The main aim of awarding the title of professor is basically to develop knowledge and bring it to the attention of society. Professors are expected to be able to guide society, and the new generation and channel knowledge on the latest policies. read more

Yogyakarta, August 27, 2024─The Social and Citizenship Inclusion Study Unit (INKLUSI) at Fisipol UGM in collaboration with ‘Aisyiyah, the Indonesian Family Planning Association (PKBI) DI Yogyakarta, the Sasana Inklusi and Disability Advocacy Movement (SIGAB) Indonesia, and the Yakkum Rehabilitation Center (PR) held the Yogyakarta Inclusion Forum on Tuesday (27/8) in the Fisipol UGM Auditorium. This forum brought together various stakeholders, including civil society organizations, researchers, and community members, to discuss the importance of equal citizenship and inclusive development as prerequisites for realizing an inclusive society in Indonesia. read more

Yogyakarta, August 26th 2024─Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM reopened the Essential Skills program: Intensive Writing and Speaking Classes Batch IV. This program offers assistance to develop students’ abilities in argumentative writing and academic presentation. It is hoped that this program can improve the skills and confidence of undergraduate students of Fisipol UGM in improving, conveying, and discussing their ideas in English. 

This program is a collaboration between Fisipol UGM and the School of Languages and Linguistics, University of Melbourne. This collaboration program was first implemented in April 2023. Since the first batch was opened, this program routinely opens a new batch every semester until now entering the 4th batch. The 4th batch will start in the second week of September and finish in early November 2024. read more

Yogyakarta, August, 26th 2024─The Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada presented a guest lecture with the theme “Failure in Social Life: Perspectives From Sociology, Policy Studies, and Critical Urban Theory”. The lecture, which was held online through the zoom platform on Monday (26/08), was the first in a series of lectures that explored the discourse on failure in social science. This lecture presented Adriana Mica, Ph.D from the University of Warsaw and Dr. Muhammad Supraja from Universitas Gadjah Mada. read more

Yogyakarta, 19 August 2024─In line with the agenda for reducing the climate crisis and sustainable development, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Gadjah Mada University (UGM), in collaboration with Chakra Giri Energi Indonesia (CGEI) and the Faculty of Forestry UGM launched a Forest Carbon Literacy Course. This course, along with a panel discussion entitled “Synergizing Carbon Sequestration with Social Strategies in Forest Management,” held on Monday (19/08) at the Mandiri Auditorium, 4th Floor, Fisipol UGM, is a beacon of hope. It aims to increase our capacity and understanding of sustainable forest carbon management, to face the challenges of global climate change, and to support the reduction of carbon emissions in Indonesia. read more

Kulon Progo, 17th of August 2024—Students of Fisipol UGM alongside Sarayu Samigaluh, the KKN-PPM Team of the 2nd Period of 2024, carried out group organizing activities and the creation of a management board for MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) in the village of Banjarsari, Samigaluh District, Kulon Progo Regency. This activity is a collaboration between MSME, the local government of the village of Banjarsari, Kulon Progo Regency Department of Trade and Industry (Disdagin), and Sarayu Samigaluh.  read more

Yogyakarta, August 16, 2024─On August 16, 2024, the Department of International Relations, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (DIHI FISIPOL UGM) held an event titled “Rumah HI” to welcome new students of the 2024 batch. This annual event of the Fisipol Student Council (Dewan Mahasiswa/ Dema) Fisipol, Student Internal Development division involves institutions, organizations, student activity units, and supporting units at the level of the Fisipol.

Yogyakarta, 9th of August 2024—The Department of Politics and Government of Fisipol UGM, through the Collaborative Hub for Politics and Policy on Sustainability (CoPPS), have organized the first Bulaksumur Roundtable Forum with the title of “Managing the Dilemma of Decentralization and Sustainability” on Friday (9/8) at UGM’s Balai Senat. This forum will feature academics, government officials, as well as business actors to dialogue on discussing both the issues of sustainability and evaluating the practices of local autonomies and local politics. Furthermore, this forum is also expected to be able to produce policy recommendations and strategic steps on promoting a new direction for further decentralization, which  will have more emphasis on multi sector collaboration. read more
