Yogyakarta, October 5th 2021─The Department of Governmental Politics (DPP) Fisipol UGM held a public talk show with AAGN Ari Dwipayana, The Presidential Special Staff as the speaker. The event was held online with the title of “Behind the Scenes of Working in the Government Inner Circle”. On this occasion, the event was attended by 101 people with Devy Dhian Cahyati, a lecturer in DPP Fisipol UGM, as the moderator. Yogyakarta, October 4th 2021–The Department of Communication Studies, Fisipol, UGM is a partner in the online Southeast Asia Conference on Media, Art, and Cinema (SEA-MCA) 2021 held by Center for Southeast Asian Social Study (CESASS) UGM on 4–5 October 2021. The online conference held the theme of “Rediscovering Southeast Asia Amidst It’s Multi-Layered Burdens”.

The Director of CESASS and a Professor in the The Department of Communication Studies Fisipol UGM, Hermin Indah Wahyuni, said that the theme of the event was based on the social and political condition of Southeast Asian countries that are more complex as the Covid-19 pandemic goes on. She hopes that the conference attended by hundreds of participants from all across Southeast Asia can help in analyzing the dynamics of Southeast Asian countries through relevant topics. “There are 79 papers from five countries; Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Hongkong, and Singapore, that will be presented in the parallel panel sessions,” said Hermin. read more

Right now, there are pretty clear changes in the process of job recruitment. According to the speaker, the recruitment process goes faster, where it used to take years now it only takes a month. BPS Data shows that the fresh graduate trend is increasing from year to year, therefore fresh graduates need to realize that the competition in the workforce is very high. 

The selection process is also different in every company, but generally the selection process starts from cv screening, followed by a psychotest, then LGD or FGD, interview, and medical check up. Now that the recruitment process is done online, the once complex and long process is shorter and cheaper to go through.  read more

The discussion started with the presentation of the material entitled “Genocide ‘65: Government Conscience and Reconciliation” from the first speaker, Soe Tjen Marching, a lecturer at SOAS University of London and the author of Dari Dalam Kubur. In her presentation, Soe Tjen talked a lot about the urgency of justice for the survivors of the ‘65 Tragedy. Soe Tjen also took several examples and quoted her writings in the book Dari Dalam Kubur which also departed from the true story of the ‘65 Tragedy. Soe Tjen’s presentation of material also invited many positive responses from the participants. During the question and answer session after the presentation of the material, many participants used the raise their hand feature on the Zoom Meeting platform and wrote questions in the comments column to be answered directly by Soe Tjen. read more

Yogyakarta, October 1st 2021─FISIPOL Crisis Center (FCC) is back with the third FCC Talk on Friday (1/10). FCC Talk is one of the implementations of FCC education and socialization functions in order to prevent sexual violence on campus, especially at FISIPOL UGM. In collaboration with Unala Youth, a youth-friendly health service provider in Yogyakarta, this time the FCC Talk is also an effort to involve various parties in realizing a safe campus. Presenting Putri as a representative from Unala Youth, at this FCC Talk, Puspa and Yoseph from the FCC Education and Socialization Division talked about “Sexual Harassment: How Can We Stop It?” via an Instagram live broadcast session. read more

This event was held by presenting resource person Erfan Ariyaputra, an expert in the field of Training and Development. On this occasion, the event was held online with discussion guides Nita Harmisa Dean and Arkananta Buwana, students of Public Policy Management (MKP) Fisipol UGM. This morning’s discussion was attended by 50 participants with various interesting discussions about leadership, ranging from basic definitions to various skills that can be developed to become characters that are able to adapt to changing times. read more

To explain AI in a simple way, Usman makes an analogy with AI as humans. Humans get data from various sensors, namely the five senses, in their bodies. Furthermore, the data will be sent to the brain to be studied. Today, there is a huge amount of digital data known as Big Data. The digital data is then processed and categorized by an “artificial brain” called machine learning and deep learning. Later, the categorization produces conclusions that can make the machine take a decision or action. “Artificial intelligence is a series, starting from obtaining, processing, collecting data, to drawing conclusions,” Usman explained. read more

Yogyakarta, September 30th 2021─The increasingly diverse social media platforms have had an effect on changing user attitudes, especially Generation Z. One of the reasons is that there are differences in the features of each social media platform so that users actively try to present their best image. This prompted a number of FISIPOL UGM students through the Student Creativity Program (PKM) to conduct research on the reality behind the diversity of social media features.

The PKM team in the field of Social Humanities Research, consisting of Maftukhatun Deritanti, Dyah Niken Rahmawati, Syifa Mahmudah, and Vina Idamatus Silmi raised the research title “The Multiple Faces of Social Media Users: The Use of Social Media in Building Image Among Generation Z”. With the guidance of a Communication Science lecturer, Lisa Lindawati, S.IP., M.A, they made observations on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter social media accounts. “Through this research, it is expected to be able to describe how someone uses social media accounts along with the level of suitability of the circumstances shown by the user, identify a person’s motives in using social media, and provide a new perspective on active users in utilizing various social media platforms, as well as reduce user’s anxiety in using social media,” Maftukhatutun as the Head of the Research Team said. read more
