Yogyakarta, September 29th 2021─FISIPOL UGM Career Development Center (CDC) career webinar is back on Wednesday (29/9). The career webinar invited Lady Daratuka Aderof as the Talent Recruitment team in Glints Singapore to talk about “How to Prepare Your CV and Conquer the Interview”. Lady talked about two main topics which are how to create a CV and how to do an interview. 

Lady started her speech by talking about the difference between CV and resume while talking about the contextual function of both documents, especially in relation to job recruitments in Indonesia. In both topics, Lady talked about the tips and tricks, do’s and don’ts, as well as the to-do lists in creating a CV and preparing for an interview. Other than that, Lady also explained several methods that one can use to enhance their CV and interview answers like using the ATS form for CVS and the STAR method ─situation, task, action, result─to answer interview questions.  read more

Constructing an undergraduate thesis is something that needs to be done by all final year students. This is not an easy task to do, because a student has to use all their knowledge that they have accumulated in their university years. No wonder when constructing their undergraduate thesis a student can be confused because they do not know where they should start from. 

To relieve students’ confusion, the Fisipol UGM Governmental Politics Student Corps (KOMAP) held an undergraduate thesis class that was in session from July to September. In the event, participants studied the different parts of a thesis, starting from the background to the research method. The speakers invited varied, starting from lecturers to Polgov UGM researchers. Students’ enthusiasm is also pretty high. There were always more than 50 students who attended the lectures.  read more

Yogyakarta, September 28th 2021─Organization of Humanity or OH FISIPOL UGM held a live Instagram broadcast to discuss the topic “Digital Society and How It Shapes Beauty Standard” with Ivony Carmelita Putri from the Girl Squad 2020. In a live Instagram broadcast hosted by Gilang Irfan Anshori, student of the Department of Social Welfare and Development class of 2021, Vony shared a lot about her views on beauty standards and their relation to the current development of digital technology.

In Vony’s view, the definition of beauty is a situation when individuals can be confident to express themselves. That way, the individual will not be afraid of the “limits” that they have, and will be able to explore themselves as widely as possible. “Don’t want to be dictated by the size of beauty made by others,” Vony said, quoting Najwa Shihab. read more

Yogyakarta, September 27th 2021─Still under the theme of FISIPOL UGM 66th Dies Natalis, the speech and national dies natalis seminar with the theme of “Job and Inequality in the Midst of the Pandemic” was held on Monday (27/9) morning. The speech was given by Prof. Wahyudi Kumorotomo, M.P.P., as a lecturer in the Department of Management and Public Policy FISIPOL UGM. Meanwhile, the speaker for the national seminar was Prof. Dr. Susetiawan, S.U., Dr. Zulfan Tadjoeddin, Nining Elitos, and Dr. Fachru Nofrian Bakarudin. The event was attended by lecturers and FISIPOL UGM members through Zoom and was live streamed through FISIPOL UGM’S Youtube.  read more

Yogyakarta, September 25th 2021—The student semi-autonomous unit that dabbles in Advertising and Public Relation, Communication Studies, Fisipol, UGM which are DeADline (@deadline.ugm) and PRemiere (@premiere.ugm) held a Webinar titled “Brand Campaign: Creating Social Impact and Shared Values”.The event was a collaboration with Life at FMCG (@lifeatfmcg) by inviting a speaker which is Riescha Puri Gayatri, the Marketing Director at Global FMCG Company who is now working for the Fonterra brands. The event started with an opening followed by an introduction session about platform life at FMCG, talk show, games, and then closed with a photo session. The talk show was moderated by Syaifa Tania, M.A., as a lecturer of the Communication Studies Fisipol UGM.  read more

Yogyakarta, September 25th 2021─The International Relations Students Corps (KOMAHI) Fisipol UGM held an online discussion called IRCCT with the title of “Cyber Security and Big Data Protection: The Digital Acceleration In The Midst of Pandemic”. On this occasion, there are two speakers which are Beltsazar Kristeya, Researcher and Head of Knowledge Management Unit at Center for Strategic and International Studies and Perdana Karim, Researcher Assistant of Center for Digital Society (CfDS) Fisipol UGM. The discussion was attended by 41 participants and talked about the importance of digital data protection from various perspectives such as it’s policies, societal aspect, and the development of the issue during the pandemic. Moderated by Marsha Phoebe, a student of the Department of International Relations, this event was divided into two sessions which are the sharing and the question and answer session.  read more

Yogyakarta, September 25th 2021─FISIPOL UGM Student Board (DEMA) held a webinar titled “September GERAM (Gericau HAM) X Eunoia ” on Saturday (25/9). The theme of this webinar is “Human Rights Issue and Social Inequality in the Covid-19 Management ” which invited Usman Hamid (Chairman of the Public Virtue Research Institute) and Abra Talattov (INDEF Researcher). The event was held virtually through a Zoom meeting. 

There needs to be an evaluation on the social inequality in the pandemic management based on several principles in the human rights perspective. Usman Hamid said that those principles include the principles of equality and non-discrimination, the principles of participation, the principle of transparency and accountability, and the principle of international help and collaboration. However, so far, there are several problems because of the lack of attention towards those principles in the COVID-19 management. “For example, the social aid to help those that live paycheck to paycheck is not done by the state and one of the reasons behind this lack of action is the corruption in the social aid fund.” he said.  read more

“The urgency now is that we are in a faster digital transformation because of the pandemic,” said Semuel A. Pangerapan, the Director General of Informatics Application in the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) Indonesia. Unfortunately, a couple of surveys show that citizens of Indonesia’s digital literacy is still low. The government through Kominfo tries to increase citizens’ digital literacy so that they are prepared to face the digital transformation era. 

Kominfo aims to get 50 million Indonesia’s citizens to have digital literacy by 2024. Since 2020, Kominfo aims to literate 12,5 million people every year through the movements of agents of change. Samuel explained that in order to educate certain groups, we need to use a cultural approach because not all society can be literate just by reading. According to him, the curriculum of digital literacy needs to always be developed. “We need to always remind people about digital literacy but also not be seen as too snobbish,” Samuel said.  read more

Yogyakarta, September 20th 2021–In order to celebrate FISIPOL UGM 66th Dies Natalis, a State of The Art Fisipol Book Launch was held on Monday (20/9) morning. In the event there was the Dean of Fisipol UGM Wawan Mas’udi, Head of the Event Muchtar Habibi, Head of the FISIPOL UGM Senate Prof. Dr. Susetiawan, and several writers of the State of the Art Series book. The event was held virtually through Fisipol UGM’s Youtube. FISIPOL UGM 66th Dies Natalis 2021 used the theme of “Work and Inequality During the Pandemic” and was held from September 11th to October 30th with several events. Some of them are: national and international seminars, cross department seminars, several competitions, alumni gathering, and art exhibitions. “We hope that this year’s Dies Natalis can bring together the FISIPOL UGM members. We also hope that this year’s event can be a reminder for Fisipol to stay relevant in the effort to solve the social problem around us,” said Muchtar Habibi, The Head Committee of Dies Natalis FISIPOL UGM.  read more

In the midst of the onslaught of foreign culture in Indonesia, moral values education and Nusantara’s culture is a big issue that needs to be paid attention to. In response to this problem, several UGM students who joined the Students Creativity Program in the Entrepreneurship chapter (PKM-K) created a doll called Bobusa.id as a way to educate children. Bobusa.id used the local story of Malin Kundang and Roro Jonggrang as the base for the character. 

The PKM-K team which consist of four students in the Communication Department which are Anugerah Ale, Landrikus Andra, Mafthukatun Deritanti, Reksan Ridho, and one Economy Department student which is Defrialdo Romadhony, said that to use local story to educate children is the right thing to do because it carries the message of listening to your parents and fulfilling our promises in our social interaction. “The doll we see in the market usually doesn’t represent Indonesia’s values, so we have the initiative of creating a doll that represents Indonesia’s values as a way to educate children,” said Anugerah as the head of the Bobusa.id team in their launching event.  read more
