Master of International Relations Program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Achieves Outstanding Accreditation

Yogyakarta, September 11, 2025—The Department of International Relations, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), has successfully achieved UNGGUL (outstanding) accreditation for its Master’s Program. This accreditation is conducted by the Independent Accreditation Institute for Social, Political, Administrative, and Communication Sciences (LAMSPAK), which has developed assessment instruments and criteria that reference several quality standards as criteria for assessing study program accreditation eligibility. read more

Affirming the Role of Human Rights Diplomacy and Global Leadership: Prof. Dafri Agussalim Officially Appointed as Professor at FISIPOL UGM

FISIPOL UGM has once again added to its roster of Professors. Prof. Dr. Dafri Agussalim, M.A., lecturer at the Department of International Relations (DIHI), has been officially inaugurated as a Professor in the field of Human Rights Diplomacy in ASEAN and Global Political Leadership.

This inauguration marks an important milestone, not only for Prof. Dafri personally but also for FISIPOL UGM in strengthening its academic contributions at both the national and international levels. As a scholar who has long been engaged in the study of international relations, democracy, and human rights, Prof. Dafri underscored the importance of human rights diplomacy as an instrument to drive change in the region and to enhance Indonesia’s role in global political leadership. read more

FISIPOL UGM Lecturers Promote Youth Social Entrepreneurship Ecosystem

Two lecturers from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL), Universitas Gadjah Mada, Massageng Widagdhaprasana and Hempri Suyatna, joined as speakers at the online Townhall Muda Yogyakarta forum under the theme “Youth Entrepreneurship Innovation.” On this occasion, both highlighted opportunities, challenges, and innovations in developing a sustainable social entrepreneurship ecosystem.

Director of the Creative Hub (C-Hub) FISIPOL UGM, Massageng Widagdhaprasana, emphasized that FISIPOL’s role through C-Hub is not merely as an incubator but also as a catalyst in building a youth entrepreneurship ecosystem. “We aim to establish a transdisciplinary learning ecosystem that generates new values in social entrepreneurship. Young people must be encouraged to adapt through various cross-sector collaborations,” he explained. read more

Facing Climate Geopolitics, Global Academics Discuss Sustainable Mining at FISIPOL UGM

The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) at Universitas Gadjah Mada, through the Institute of International Studies (IIS), in collaboration with the University of Essex, United Kingdom, is hosting the Networking Conference on Climate Geopolitics and Sustainable Mining Governance on Wednesday (3/9) at the FISIPOL Dean’s Meeting Room.

The two-day international conference, held on September 3–4, 2025, brings together around 12 academics and practitioners from various countries, including the United Kingdom, Australia, and South Africa. The participants engage in intensive discussions on sustainable mining governance amid the dynamics of global climate geopolitics. read more

FISIPOL UGM Graduates 216 Undergraduate Students in the 2024/2025 Academic Year, 4th Graduation Period

Yogyakarta, August 27, 2025 – The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FISIPOL UGM), today graduated 216 undergraduate students during the 4th Graduation Period of the 2024/2025 Academic Year.

The graduates came from six departments, as follows:

  • International Relations (57 graduates)

  • Communication Science (65 graduates)

  • Public Policy and Management (28 graduates)

  • Social Development and Welfare (31 graduates)

  • Politics and Government (19 graduates)

  • Sociology (16 graduates)

For this period, Hanung Abdul Muqqit Ramadhan Anwar from the Department of Communication Science was named the Faculty’s Best Graduate with a GPA of 3.97 and a study duration of 3 years, 7 months, and 25 days. read more

IIS FISIPOL UGM Holds Enumerator Training to Monitor Shrinking Civic Space in Indonesia

The Institute of International Studies (IIS), Department of International Relations, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), organized an enumerator training on Tuesday, August 26. This activity is part of a two-year research project titled Connect, Defend, and Act! (CDA), initiated by Hivos and the Humanis Foundation, with support from Norad – Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation.

The training was designed to equip enumerators with skills in data collection, coding techniques, and interview methods to monitor the condition of civic space and democracy in Indonesia. The sessions were delivered by Daniel Petz and Nadya Zafira, both experienced in research on civil society and human rights issues. read more

PSDK FISIPOL UGM Lecturer Joins Visiting Scholar Program at BRAC University, Bangladesh

Dr. Nurhadi, lecturer at the Department of Social Development and Welfare (PSDK), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FISIPOL UGM), participated in a visiting scholar program at BRAC University, Dhaka, Bangladesh, from August 6–15, 2025. The program aims to strengthen international academic collaboration, particularly in poverty alleviation studies through the Graduation Approach.

BRAC University was chosen due to its close connection with BRAC International, the institution that pioneered the Graduation Approach in the early 2000s. Today, this method has become a global reference in poverty reduction strategies, including in Indonesia. read more

CHub FISIPOL UGM Hosts Webinar “Tech for Earth” to Promote Sustainable Business Innovation

The Creative Hub (CHub) of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FISIPOL UGM), organized a Knowledge Exchange Program titled “Tech for Earth: Sustainable Enterprises for the Future” on Friday, August 22. This online event was part of the CHub Batch 9 Talent Pitching series, which focuses on fostering social entrepreneurship in the context of sustainability challenges.

The webinar explored the theme of Future-Fit, an approach that emphasizes social justice, economic inclusion, and environmental restoration and protection as foundations for a sustainable future. Technology, in this discussion, was positioned not merely as a tool but as a key infrastructure that supports systems—accelerating innovation, expanding impact, and building adaptive and collaborative mechanisms aligned with sustainability principles. read more

PPKK FISIPOL UGM Successfully Holds 4th Training on Developing Business Process Maps for Government Institutions

The Center for Capacity Development and Cooperation (PPKK), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FISIPOL UGM), successfully organized the 4th Training on Developing Business Process Maps for Government Institutions on August 19–22, 2025, in Yogyakarta. The program was attended by participants from various ministries, agencies, and local governments across Indonesia.

Over the course of four days, participants received intensive training on the importance of business process mapping as the backbone of organizational efficiency. A structured process map not only ensures smooth operations but also helps government institutions function ethically, legally, and effectively in delivering public services. read more

CfDS FISIPOL UGM Hosts IRIS 2025: International Symposium Discusses Challenges and Risks of GenAI in the Asia-Pacific

The Center for Digital Society (CfDS), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FISIPOL UGM), hosted the Information Resilience and Integrity Symposium (IRIS) 2025, an international academic and policy forum addressing the challenges of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI).

The event was held in collaboration with the Safer Internet Lab (SAIL)—an initiative by the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and Google Indonesia—together with CfDS FISIPOL UGM. IRIS 2025 provided a cross-sector dialogue space to respond to the impacts of GenAI on democracy, digital security, and social life across the Asia-Pacific region. read more
