Yogyakarta, January 29, 2026—The Center for Capacity Development and Cooperation of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) UGM successfully held a Basic Planning System Training for Tulungagung Regency from January 27 to 29, 2026. The training, which aims to improve the capacity of Tulungagung regional government officials, was officially opened by the Regent of Tulungagung and the Dean of Fisipol UGM in Yogyakarta. Participants from the Tulungagung Regency regional government apparatus attended the training.

Mohammad Farid Budiono, a researcher from the Department of Social Development and Welfare at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada, together with Prof. Susetiawan, has published a study examining state–community relations in rural electrification in Indonesia.
The study analyzes unequal contestations between the state and local communities in the implementation of rural electrification programs. Adopting a critical perspective, it shows that energy infrastructure development does not always align with community needs, but is often shaped by power relations, negotiation processes, and the marginalization of local voices.
Yogyakarta, January 15, 2026─The Department of International Relations (DIHI) of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a meeting with representatives from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday (January 15th) to discuss collaboration opportunities for developing diplomatic capacity. The meeting, held in the DIHI Meeting Room, was part of an effort to strengthen the quality of education and training for young diplomats and to open up opportunities for academic collaboration with universities.
Yogyakarta, January 15, 2026—The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a Public Discussion entitled “Sexual Politics in Indonesia: Depoliticization and Destruction of the Indonesian Women’s Movement” today (January 15). This event was held in a hybrid format, with the event taking place in the 4th-floor Auditorium of FISIPOL UGM and participating online via Zoom. This discussion provided a critical academic space to discuss the relationship between politics, power, and women’s position in the history and practice of democracy in Indonesia.
Yogyakarta, January 13, 2026—The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) of Gadjah Mada University (UGM) held Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 celebrations on Tuesday (January 13), at the West Corridor of FISIPOL UGM. Carrying the theme “God’s Love that Serves in the Midst of Crisis: Peace in the Heart, Peace on Earth,” this celebration serves as a space to return to God’s love that is present in peace, not merely talking about numbers or abstract futures. This is especially true in the midst of the crises currently facing the world, from the climate crisis and hydrometeorological disasters to social, political, and economic crises.
Lecturers and students from the Department of Public Policy and Management, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada, have published a national anthology titled “Public Policy Conflicts in Indonesia: Reflection and Transformation.” The book is co-authored by Gabriel Lele, Bagus Sulistiono, and students as part of a collaborative academic initiative.
The anthology examines a wide range of public policy conflicts in Indonesia—from agrarian and environmental issues to socio-cultural tensions. Using a conflict transformation approach, it not only maps the roots and dynamics of conflict but also proposes more inclusive, participatory, and equitable policy alternatives.
A lecturer from the Department of International Relations, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FISIPOL UGM), Suci Lestari Yuana, S.I.P., M.I.A., together with Teresa Gaia Sebayang, has recently published an international scholarly article titled “Acting Out Peace: The Role of Dramaturgy in Peace Studies in Higher Education.” The article appears in the reputable journal Teaching in Higher Education (Taylor & Francis), one of the leading global references in critical education studies.
Yogyakarta, January 14, 2026—The Department of International Relations (DIHI), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), in collaboration with the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu), held an event titled “Watching Together the 2026 Annual Press Statement of the Minister of Foreign Affairs (PPTM)” on Wednesday (January 14) at the Independent Auditorium of Fisipol UGM. DIHI UGM was one of nine partner universities selected to host the joint viewing of the 2026 Annual Press Statement of the Minister of Foreign Affairs (PPTM). The event took place in the Nusantara Room of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was broadcast live on the MoFA Indonesia YouTube channel.
As the Director at Directorat of Partnership, Alumni and Global Initiatives of Universitas Gadjah Mada, Prof. Dr. Puji Astuti, S.Si., M.Sc., Apt. welcomed the Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia, leaders from Xiamen University, as well as faculty staff from Fisipol UGM. She mentioned that the achievements in years of bilateral cooperation has strengthened Indonesia’s relationship with China in the aspect of trade, culture, and national development. “Today, we will continue to strengthen our commitment to strategic cooperation, especially in the field of infrastructure, information, and technology. We will open communication mainly to balance it with our national interests,” She added.
In line with that spirit, the Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia, Mr Wang Lutong, felt honored to be a part of Indonesia’s friendship with China. According to him, the world is in the middle of facing new challenges that can possibly change the future. Global South countries must then cooperate and coordinate in order to face this issue, while also maintaining security as well as just global policies. “China and Indonesia are two big nations, and our 75 years of bilateral diplomatic relations has become a model for other countries to follow,” He said.
Yogyakarta, October 1st 2025─The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FISIPOL UGM) and the University of Melbourne launched a book entitled Rethinking Histories of Indonesia: Experiencing, Resisting, and Renegotiating Coloniality at the 4th floor auditorium of FISIPOL UGM. The event featured four speakers from various institutions, namely Kate McGregor (University of Melbourne), Abdul Wahid (Universitas Gadjah Mada), Brigitta Isabella (Indonesian Institute of the Arts), and I Ngurah Suryawan (University of Papua).
