Mobilizing Youth Political Awareness: Polgov UGM and SMI Hold Conference

Yogyakarta, May 19, 2026—The Social Movement Institute (SMI), together with POLGOV Fisipol UGM, held a conference as a space to unite forces, gather initiatives, and build a bold, creative, militant, and imaginative youth politics.

Amidst political deadlock, the dominance of power, military strengthening, and the arrest of over 6,000 young people, this event focused specifically on igniting youth political awareness to bring about change.

Prof. Amalinda Savirani, one of the speakers, emphasized the importance of realizing change through our communities. “Return to the community, organize yourself, and continuously connect one point with another. In this way, hopefully, the desired change can occur,” she said. read more

Facilitating Critical Discussion Spaces, SOREC FISIPOL UGM Holds a Film Screening of “Pig Feast”

Yogyakarta, May 12, 2026—As a manifestation of the educational institution’s commitment to facilitating inclusive dialectical spaces, the Social Research Centre (SOREC) of the Sociology Department, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) UGM, took a strategic initiative by hosting the ‘Papua Solidarity Space for Land, Food, and Life Sovereignty’ (Ruang Solidaritas Papua Untuk Kedaulatan Tanah, Pangan, dan Kehidupan). This event was realized through a screening, collective viewing, and discussion of the documentary film entitled Pesta Babi (Pig Feast). The Social Research Centre (SOREC) of FISIPOL UGM Holds a Film Screening and Discussion of “Pig Feast”

Yogyakarta, May 12, 2026─SOREC FISIPOL UGM initiated the “Papuan Solidarity Space for Land Sovereignty, Food, and Life,” which included a screening and discussion of the film “Pig Feast.” Held on Tuesday (May 12) in the 4th Floor Auditorium of FISIPOL UGM, the event was well-attended by members of the FISIPOL UGM academic community and the general public.

The event began with a screening of “Pig Feast,” directed by Dandhy Dwi Laksono and the entire documentary team. The discussion continued with a discussion session moderated by Sana Ulaili (Forum Cik Di Tiro) and invited three moderators: Bagus Sulistiono (Center for Capacity Development and Cooperation (PPKK) FISIPOL UGM), Made Supriatma (CRRS, Knowledge Council YLBHI), and Herni Saraswati (Women Farmers). The discussion focused on the issues raised in the film, which were then addressed by the Papuan Student Alliance (AMP) and the Papuan Indigenous Peoples of the Meepago, Lapago, and Animha Regions. read more

Examining the Impact of PP TUNAS, CfDS FISIPOL UGM Holds a Comprehensive Discussion on Child Protection on Digital Platforms

Yogyakarta, May 7, 2026 – The Center for Digital Society (CfDS), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) Universitas Gadjah Mada, once again held CfDS Response, carrying the theme “The Enactment of PP TUNAS: Interpreting Equality in Child Protection on Digital Platforms.” This event was held online on Thursday (7/5).

CfDS Researcher and event host, Semeion Bintang Ridho Aunillah, opened the discussion session by highlighting the crucial urgency behind the emergence of this policy, which restricts social media use for children. “The use of digital technology by children is like a double-edged sword. On one hand, digital platforms offer a space for children to learn, express themselves, and develop. But on the other hand, there are numerous negative impacts that arise when children use digital media, such as exposure to harmful content, privacy data exploitation, and, most severely, digital violence against children,” Semeion stated. read more

[RELEASE] From Student Empirical Experiences to Policy Recommendations: UGM Faculty of Social and Political Sciences Holds Exhibition and Dissemination of Student Volunteer Documentation in Aceh and the Capital City

Yogyakarta, April 26, 2026─The deployment of Fisipol Mengajar volunteers to Central Aceh Regency and the Bala Gadjah Mada Team to the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) from January to February 2026 brought urgency to the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) to hold an event titled “Exhibition and Dissemination of FISIPOL Documentation in Aceh and IKN” on Friday (April 24). This event served as a collaborative space that bridged students’ empirical experiences with academic reflection and policy discourse. Fisipol Mengajar focused on community support in disaster-affected areas in Aceh, with an emphasis on post-disaster educational recovery and strengthening social interaction. Meanwhile, Bala Gadjah Mada initiated an expedition to the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) area focusing on environmental management issues, particularly waste management in the development buffer zone. read more

Yogyakarta, April 24, 2026 – The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) UGM held an “Exhibition and Dissemination of FISIPOL Volunteer Documentation in Aceh and the IKN.” The event, themed “Recording Teaching, Reflecting on Learning, and Strengthening Service,” took place on Friday (April 24) at 1:00 PM WIB in the 4th Floor Auditorium and West Corridor of FISIPOL UGM.

The Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Gadjah Mada University, Dr. Wawan Mas’udi, expressed his appreciation for the students who are members of the Bala Gadjah Mada Setrajana team who have visited the IKN and the Fisipol Mengajar team in Aceh. “The venues are different, the activities seem different, but they share the same mission: the disaster situation and potential for disaster that require special attention from the campus, so I express my gratitude,” Wawan said in his remarks. read more
