Yogyakarta, March 4, 2026—The Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FISIPOL UGM), held an online open guest lecture entitled “The World of Phenomenology from Schutz’s Outlook” on Wednesday (March 4). This academic event featured Argentine phenomenologist Prof. Carlos Belvedere, a lecturer at the University of Buenos Aires, who examined phenomenology through the perspective of Alfred Schutz.

In his presentation, Prof. Belvedere emphasized that his approach was not a study of the history of thought, but rather a reflection of the practice of phenomenology itself. “My perspective is not that of a historian, but that of a phenomenology practitioner,” he said. He then explored the concept of epoché and its significance in the development of science, inviting participants to reflect on the relationship between science and philosophy, and questioning whether the phenomenological perspective in scientific research is merely an application of philosophical ideas or a reflective foundation for the process of knowledge production. read more

Yogyakarta, February 13, 2026─The Center for Capacity Development and Cooperation (PPKK) FISIPOL UGM held the first batch of training on Compiling Government Agency Performance Reports (LKJIP) from February 10–13, 2026, in Yogyakarta. Participants came from North Kalimantan Province, Cianjur Regency, Rembang Regency, and Banjarbaru City.

The training was conducted using interactive methods. Participants not only listened to the material from the speakers but also engaged in brainstorming, simulations, and presentations. Participants conducted simulations and presentations on Performance Analysis Techniques, Presentation of LKJIP Documents, Preparation of Environmental Impact Assessment Follow-up to Performance Reports, and Simulation of Complete LKJIP. read more

Yogyakarta, February 12, 2026─The Center for Capacity Development and Cooperation (PPKK) FISIPOL UGM held the first training on preparing Regional Government Implementation Reports and Accountability Statements (LPPD and LKPJ) from February 9-12, 2026, in Yogyakarta. Participants from the Rembang and Muara Enim Regencies participated in this training.

The learning process was conducted using interactive methods. Participants not only listened to the material from the speakers but also engaged in brainstorming, simulations, and presentations. Participants conducted simulations and presentations related to the analysis and presentation of LPPD and LKPJ, as well as the evaluation and follow-up of LPPD and LKPJ. During the simulations, participants also processed and analyzed data using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve the accuracy, effectiveness, and quality of report preparation. read more

The Institute of International Studies (IIS), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada, in collaboration with UN Women Indonesia, has officially launched the Feminist Participatory Action Research (FPAR) Report. This report highlights gender inequality and the intersecting vulnerabilities faced by women in fragile contexts.

The study examines the root causes of gender inequality across settings shaped by disasters, social conflict, and violent extremism. Conducted in Kupang (East Nusa Tenggara), Bima (West Nusa Tenggara), and Sigi (Central Sulawesi), the research adopts a participatory approach that positions women as active subjects rather than passive objects of study. read more

This selection test was conducted to fill the positions of Carik, Bulus Kidul Hamlet, Pakisaji Hamlet, Baratan Hamlet, and Nepen Hamlet. The test took place at the Candibinangun Village Hall. Jakarta, February 3, 2026—The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in online motorcycle taxi platforms has become a system that actively regulates, assesses, and disciplines drivers. Amidst the lack of algorithmic transparency and weak legal protection for platform workers, the Center for Digital Society (CfDS) of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and the Pulitzer Center held an offline workshop at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Jakarta Campus on Tuesday (February 3). The workshop, titled “Strengthening the Role of Advocates in Addressing Algorithmic Inequality in Online Motorcycle Taxi Platforms in Indonesia,” aimed to bridge empirical research findings and investigative reporting with legal practice by strengthening the capacity of advocates and digital rights advocates to understand, critique, and challenge the algorithmic systems that shape working conditions in the platform economy. This event brought together academics, researchers, representatives from taxi and motorcycle taxi driver associations, and legal practitioners to discuss litigation pathways, regulatory gaps, and data-driven advocacy strategies. read more

Yogyakarta, January 23, 2026—As an effort to encourage socio-economic empowerment of residents in the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), through the Department of Public Policy and Management (DPPM), has again deployed a community service team to Karanganom Hamlet, Sitimulyo Village, Piyungan District, Bantul Regency. Yogyakarta, January 5, 2026─The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Gadjah Mada University (Fisipol UGM), held a briefing and farewell event for the Fisipol Mengajar (Education Rehabilitation Volunteer Program) in Aceh on Monday (5/1). The Fisipol Mengajar program is an initiative of Fisipol UGM to contribute to post-disaster education recovery and rehabilitation efforts in Aceh. The program is fully supported by the university and is implemented in collaboration with the Sukma Foundation as a strategic partner. Twelve Fisipol UGM student volunteers will be deployed and placed in two different regions: Bireuen and Pidie Jaya. The twelve students will volunteer for 30 days, from January 10 to February 8, 2026. read more
