Yogyakarta, April 17, 2026─Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM, in collaboration with the University of Melbourne and Kopernik, held a five-day Gender Durability Research Workshop from April 13–17, 2026. This workshop served as a crucial part of preparing the 2026 field research agenda, as well as a space for academic consolidation and strengthening cross-institutional collaboration.

The workshop was designed to bring together researchers, lecturers/academics, and practitioners from various backgrounds to develop a research framework that is comprehensive, contextual, and responsive to local social dynamics. The primary focus of the study was on women’s everyday politics, which is seen as a crucial space for understanding power relations, social practices, and the challenges women face in their daily lives in various regions of Indonesia. read more

Yogyakarta, April 16, 2026 – The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) UGM held a workshop titled “Comparative Southeast Asia” on Thursday (April 16). This academic event was part of a series of visiting scholar programs by Dr. Priyambudi Sulistiyanto, an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at Flinders University, Australia. The workshop was attended by doctoral students, lecturers, and academics from various institutions.

Dr. Priyambudi’s presence provided a valuable discourse space for participants to deepen their insights into the political, social, and cultural dynamics of the Southeast Asian region through a comparative approach. In his research, he compared three Southeast Asian countries: Indonesia, Thailand, and Burma (Myanmar). He also shared his field experiences, from the similarities and differences he found during the 1997 political and economic crisis, the dynamics of field research, to his reflections, which are included in the book “Melawai ke Asia.” read more

Yogyakarta, April 14, 2026—The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FISIPOL UGM), provides a prayer room to meet the worship needs of the campus community. The BSI Fisipol prayer room, inaugurated in 2015 through a collaboration between the faculty and Islamic banking, serves as a place for prayer between classes.

The prayer room features clean, regularly maintained carpet, with a partition separating the prayer areas for men and women. Prayer equipment, such as prayer robes (mukena), sarongs, and prayer mats, is available in a special cupboard and is free for anyone to use. The prayer room is equipped with two separate ablution areas for men and women. Each area has several running water faucets and small seating areas, making it easier for the congregation, especially when prayer times are close to class changes. One important facility provided is a locker for storing belongings. Students, faculty, or staff carrying bags, books, or valuables can safely store them before performing prayers. read more

Yogyakarta, April 11, 2026─The Wellness Center of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), has successfully carried out a community service program entitled “Health Check with the Wellness Center of HPU FISIPOL UGM in Celebration of Gempur’s 27th Anniversary.” This program was held on Saturday (11/4) in Tegal Barep, Bulak Salak RT 03 RW 46, Wukirsari, Cangkringan, Sleman Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta.

Not only came as participants in the health check-up, local residents, alongside village officials and the youth organization (karang taruna), worked hand in hand to ensure the success of this event. Everyone, from children and pregnant women to the elderly, welcomed the activity enthusiastically, as demonstrated by their punctual arrival at the location and orderly participation in the series of events. This event brought in expert health professionals directly from the Universitas Gadjah Mada Academic Hospital (RSA UGM), as well as service officers from the Wellness Center HPU FISIPOL UGM, to conduct the examinations. read more

The event, titled “Health Check-up with the UGM Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) Wellness Center in Celebration of the 27th Anniversary of GEMPUR” was specifically organized through a strategic collaboration between several parties, including the UGM Faculty of Social and Political Sciences Wellness Center, the UGM Hospital (RSA) healthcare workers, the Tegal Barep Hamlet community, and the local Youth Organization (Karang Taruna). read more

Yogyakarta, March 30, 2026—The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FISIPOL UGM), through the Center for Digital Society (CfDS), in collaboration with the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF), held the 23rd Informal ASEM Seminar on Human Rights (ASEMHRS23): Capacity-Building Training entitled “Future-Proofing AI: Building Human-in-the-Loop Governance Skills for Rights-Respecting AI.”

This event is an international forum bringing together participants from various countries in Asia and Europe, including representatives of governments, civil society, academics, and human rights institutions. Held over three days, from March 30 to April 1, 2026, in Yogyakarta, this program focused on strengthening capacity to understand and respond to the impacts of artificial intelligence (AI) on human rights, while also encouraging cross-sector and cross-regional collaboration. read more

Yogyakarta, March 31, 2026─The Department of International Relations, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), held a public lecture titled “JICA Chair Public Lecture: A Japanese Approach to International Cooperation” on Tuesday (31/3) at the 4th Floor Mandiri Auditorium, FISIPOL UGM.

The event was presented by Prof. Kato Hiroshi from the International University of Japan and moderated by Drs. Siti Daulah Khoriati. This public lecture was part of the Japanese Political Economy and International Relations course in the International Undergraduate Program in International Relations (IUP in IR) and the Japanese Political Economy and International Relations course in the regular Bachelor of International Relations study program. read more
