Department Sociology Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM Holds Thematic Analysis Workshop with Prof. Martin Lindhardt, Concluding the Visiting Scholar Activity Series

Yogyakarta, April 23, 2026—The Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) organized a data analysis workshop entitled “Thematic Analysis and its Use in the Study of Pentecostal Representations of God.” This academic activity was held in Room BG 203 on Thursday (23/4), from 10:00 to 11:30 WIB.

This workshop served as the closing event for the visiting scholar program series of Professor Martin Lindhardt from the University of Southern Denmark. Previously, Prof. Martin had led two main agendas at UGM, namely a sharing session entitled “Digital Sociology: Recent Developments in the Sociological Study of Relations between Digital Technologies and Social Life” on Monday (20/4) and a public lecture on “The Economics of Pentecostal/Charismatic Christianity” on Wednesday (22/4). read more

Enhancing an Inclusive Campus Environment, UGM’s Fisipol Crisis Center Holds Psychological First Aid (PFA) Training

Yogyakarta, April 23, 2026─Mental health issues among university students are increasingly gaining serious attention from various parties. Responding to this urgency and as a concrete step toward creating a safe learning space, the Fisipol Crisis Center (FCC) UGM, in collaboration with the Center for Public Mental Health (CPMH) of the Faculty of Psychology UGM, successfully held a Psychological First Aid (PFA) Training.

The activity, which aimed to equip the academic community to prepare themselves for mental health crises, took place on Thursday (23/4) from 08:00 to 15:00 WIB in Room BG 203, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) UGM. This event specifically targeted students actively involved in various Student Activity Units (UKM) within FISIPOL, and was also open to the general public interested in mental health issues. read more

Master’s and Doctoral Programs of the Public Policy and Management Department, FISIPOL UGM, Hold Book Review Seminar “Theory and Regulation of Regional Autonomy”

Yogyakarta, April 23, 2026 – The Master’s and Doctoral Programs of Public Policy and Management (MKP), FISIPOL UGM, organized a seminar and book discussion entitled “Reviewing the Dynamics of Decentralization in Indonesia and Book Discussion: Theory and Regulation of Regional Autonomy.” This academic forum, which was open to the public, took place in the Auditorium on the 4th Floor of FISIPOL UGM on Thursday (23/4) morning.

Evi Sukmayeti, S.IP., MPA., an MKP doctoral student serving as the moderator, opened the event by highlighting concerns in the field regarding current government decentralization practices. “Practitioners state that what is currently being felt is a transfer of affairs, not authority. So, they are given tasks but not the authority to make decisions. Thus, it seems that what we worry about in the MKP department is that what is happening now is recentralization,” Evi explained. read more

The Department of Sociology, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Holds Thematic Analysis Workshop with Prof. Martin Lindhart, Closing the Visiting Scholar Program

Yogyakarta, April 23, 2026 — The Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FISIPOL), held a data analysis workshop entitled “Thematic Analysis and Its Use in the Study of Pentecostal Representations of God” in Room BA 204 on Thursday (April 23) from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Western Indonesian Time.

This workshop marked the final event of the visiting scholar program by Professor Martin Lindhardt (University of Southern Denmark) at FISIPOL UGM. To Thoroughly Explore the Essence of Regional Autonomy, the Masters and Doctoral Programs in Management and Public Policy, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM, Hold a Book Review of “Theory and Regulation of Regional Autonomy”

Yogyakarta, April 23, 2026 – The Masters and Doctoral Programs in Management and Public Policy (DMKP) of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada, held a seminar titled “Reviewing the Dynamics of Decentralization in Indonesia and a Book Discussion: Theory and Regulation of Regional Autonomy.” The event, open to the public, took place in the 4th Floor Auditorium on Thursday morning (April 23).

This academic forum featured the book’s author, Prof. Dr. Hanif Nurcholis, M.Si., who is also a Professor at Universitas Terbuka. He was also present, along with Yogyakarta Mayor Dr. Hasto Wardoyo and UGM Professor of Public Policy and Management, Prof. Dr. Agus Pramusinto. This discussion delved deeper into the practices of regional government governance and regulations, including leadership mechanisms. Featuring Prof. Martin Lindhardt from the University of Southern Denmark as the keynote speaker, the public lecture, titled “The Economics of Pentecostal/Charismatic Christianity,” sought to understand the relationship between religion and economics, which is becoming increasingly important in Indonesia. Danish Professor Discusses the Economics of Charismatic Christianity at FISIPOL UGM

Yogyakarta, April 22, 2026—The Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FISIPOL UGM), highlighted the relationship between religion and economics in a public lecture today.

The public lecture featured Prof. Martin Lindhardt from the University of Southern Denmark as the keynote speaker. The event was open to the public and was attended by undergraduate and graduate students of the Sociology of Religion course.

Understanding the relationship between religion and economics is becoming increasingly important in Indonesia, where religious activities play a significant role in the social and economic life of society. UGM presented a public lecture titled “The Economics of Pentecostal/Charismatic Christianity” with international expert Professor Martin Lindhardt. This public lecture provided an opportunity for the academic community to broaden their understanding of the dynamics of religious economics, which are highly relevant to Indonesia’s current socio-economic conditions. read more

Concluding the Visiting Scholar Series, FISIPOL UGM Holds “Retracing the Footsteps of the Late Ben Anderson in Bangkok”

Yogyakarta, April 20, 2026─The Visiting Scholar Program at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), has reached its conclusion. For nearly a month (March 30 – April 21, 2026), the program held a series of events ranging from a public lecture, a master class titled “Melawat ke Asia” (Visiting Asia), a doctoral student workshop themed “Comparative Southeast Asia”, a methodological workshop on “Doing Field Research in Southeast Asia”, to the concluding seminar titled “Napak Tilas Alm. Ben Anderson di Bangkok” (Retracing the Footsteps of the Late Ben Anderson in Bangkok). read more

For Sustainable Quality, The Social Development and Welfare Study Program (PSdK) at FISIPOL UGM Undergoes LAMSPAK Assessment

Yogyakarta, April 20, 2026—The Independent Accreditation Institute for Social, Political, and Communication Studies (LAMSPAK) conducted a field accreditation assessment of the Master’s Program in Social Development and Welfare (PSdK) at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL UGM).

This assessment serves as the main platform for strategic discussions regarding improving the quality assurance of higher education in the PSdK master’s program. The assessment process not only focused on administrative verification but also deeply explored the institution’s commitment to building a continuous quality assurance cycle. read more

To Close the Visiting Scholar Series, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) of UGM Holds a Seminar “Retracing the Late Ben Anderson in Bangkok”

Yogyakarta, April 20, 2026 ─ The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) of UGM, in collaboration with Flinders University, concluded its series of visiting scholar programs on Monday (April 20). As the closing event, FISIPOL UGM held a seminar titled “Retracing the Late Ben Anderson in Bangkok,” presented by Dr. Priyambudi Sulistiyanto and moderated by Muhammad Djindan, S.I.P., M.Sc. Unlike previous Visiting Scholar events, this seminar was attended by faculty members, lecturers, researchers, students, and the general public. read more
