Yogyakarta, October 30th 2021─The Faculty of Social and Political Science (Fisipol) UGM held the closing ceremony of the 66th Dies Natalis online through zoom and youtube streaming. The event invited several stars like Umar Haen, Yusril Fahriza, Duo Nillo, and was hosted by Gundhi Sos and Om Dibyo. The theme used by the celebration was job and inequality in the midst of the pandemic. The event was also meant to be an online reunion event for Fisipol UGM alumni. Even though it was held virtually, the event was quite festive and it was attended by dozens of people through zoom and hundreds of people also watched through Fisipol UGM youtube channel.
To start the first session, both MCs said that in line with the social situation that we can see in our community, job and inequality are one of the most worrying topics in Indonesia’s social and political sphere. Because Fisipol UGM is an academic entity whose main aim is to analyze social and political issues, this year’s Dies Natalis theme is meant to represent the concern about the situation which hopefully can raise awareness about the issue.
Dovetailing with the previous session, the next part of the event is musical entertainment by Umar Haen who played several songs. As a musician and Fisipol UGM Communication Studies Department Batch 2012 alumni, Umar also highlighted socio-political issues in his works. The knowledge that he has gained in Fisipol UGM inspired him to create music as a form of entertainment and as a way to give the message with the aim of bringing a moment of enlightenment for people. Aside from Umar, the music performance was also brought by Duo Nillo with pop-modern songs and Hasoe Angels who performed dangdut songs. The event was also filled with a hilarious and entertaining stand up comedy session by Yusril Ilham.
Fisipol UGM’s 66th Dies Natalis event has been going on for several weeks since the start of October. Many events have been held, starting from webinar and discussion, sport competition, video and essay competition, as well as other events. The closing event is meant to be the peak of the ceremony that officially closes Fisipol UGM’s 66th Dies Natalis.
