Treading the Long Journey of the PKS Bill with FISIPOL Crisis Center and KAPSTRA

Yogyakarta, October 22nd 2021─The FISIPOL Crisis Center or FCC regularly holds webinar series in order to carry out its educational and socialization function as a sexual harassment prevention unit among the academic community of FISIPOL UGM. In the fifth webinar series which was held on Friday (22/10), the FCC in collaboration with the Family for Social Development and Welfare or KAPSTRA FISIPOL UGM, raised the title “The PKS Bill, Your History Now: The Polemic of State Commitment in Handling Sexual Violence Cases in Indonesia” to see the long journey of the PKS Bill as a legal instrument in favor of survivors of sexual violence cases in Indonesia.

Ulya Niami Efrina Jamsonk or who is often called Pipin, Lecturer and Women Activist, delivered her material entitled “Examining the Urgency of Legalization of the Bill on the Elimination of Sexual Violence – Opening the Pandora’s Box: The Reality of Sexual Violence” with three main scopes, namely the issue of sexual violence as a public issue and multidimensional, so that the role of the state becomes important to protect the rights of victims; reflection on the twenty-year journey in efforts to handle and prevent sexual violence by the Service Provider Forum and civil society movements, while looking at the Annual Records (CATAHU) of Komnas Perempuan; and discussions with hearts to realize the importance of humanizing humans, to see victims or survivors of sexual violence not just numbers. Pipin’s three scopes are packed in concise and concise points, but also remain interactive, resulting in many responses and questions from the participants, which were conveyed through the comments column.

The second presentation from the second speaker, Dr. Maria Ulfah Anshor, M.Sc., as the Commissioner of Komnas Perempuan, is no less interesting. Maria’s material which consists of several points – the basic description of the PKS Bill in the form of six key elements, the history and journey of the PKS Bill, to Komnas Perempuan’s response to the PKS Bill – is an affirmation of the material previously presented by Pipin. Similar to the material presented by Pipin, the participants enthusiastically responded to the material presented by Maria, which was then read by Suci Murniati, the student of the Department of Social Development and Welfare class of 2019, as moderator. Suci also summarized all the results of the discussion in a short conclusion that she conveyed before the group photo session and closed the series of events.
